I didn't have a template for the cut out so just went by eye. A touch too big but I was happy that it was even.

Sorry to bump an old thread, but I'm just finishing my towbar install on a '08 wagon and had a couple of questions about the wiring loom. I purchased my towbar/loom from a wreckers and it's supposed to be genuine. The part number on the sticker on the loom is SA700LU, which seems to be right?

I've found (I think) the spare plug on the driver's side just near the subwoofer. I assume this is definintely the right one in the wagons?

The only thing that concerns me is the towbar loom doesn't have matching wire colours for the spare plug above, and there's a black and blue pin separated from the plug like this:

Is it OK to just plug this straight in, or do I need to do something with the black and blue pins? As far as I can tell, black is for the reversing signal and blue is for 'service brakes', but I'm just not sure what to match them up with on the spare plug in the car.

I just have mine on a lead that lives in the spare wheel compartment. When I need it I just hang it out through the tailgate.

is there any towbar which wouldn't require a cutting ? I'm thinking of getting one of these
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Subaru-Liber ... 103&_uhb=1

also, someone has already asked, what did you guys use to cover the trimmed parts? the response was clark's rubber but what items would be suitable ? I've never done this before thus getting as many info as I can ;) thanks heaps

They may be able to suggest a local retailer? Said towbar sits under the bumper and doesn't require any exterior cutting that i'm aware of.

Note, the description in that ad specifically says: "Subaru Liberty Wagon 06/1994 - 08/2003"
So it almost certainly will NOT fit a 2006 car.

Try this one instead. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Subaru-Liber ... 27bc947299

thanks for the warning.. I've placed the wrong link here. The fun part is, there are 2 manufacturers on ebay that provide very similar items. I've asked both about the trimming requirement and one of them said no cutting is required, and the other said, and that they have asked subaru as well, that there is ALWAYS a cutting/trimming required. Now figure. I just want it for bike carrier and not really looking forward to trim/cut into a plastic bumper unless it's necessary.

Cheers,
M

I asked about the same towbar ages ago, for a wagon, just for bike rack and maybe 6x4 trailer, was told minor trimming, but I think they mean just the bottom. But they were quite vague.

I had to do minor trimming on my Gen 3 wagon to clear the flat bolt on tongue. When the tongue was removed it looked like no towbar was fitted at all.
I'm about to fit a Hayman Reece H/Duty to my Gen 4 wagon which incidently is the same part for a sedan.
For this a large cut is neccessary to accomodate the square hitch.
Granted it looks fugly but the square hitch would be better suited for bike racks, firstly although not heavy there is a large downward leverage on the towbar when loaded with 3 bikes.
Secondly there are bike racks available with a 50 x 50 section that slides directly into the towbar, eliminating the need to unbolt when not in use.
If you do get the heavy duty spend the extra $30 for the hitch lock mention previously in this thread. The hitches do get stolen and are costly to replace.
