I ended up mounting mine of centre as well I'll post a pic later..only issue is beciase the camera I use has a fish eye lens and by mounting it off centre the picture is slightly distorted with objects from a distance..not too shabby though.

Cheers

I used a oem eclipse camera as used by Lexus and Toyota. Doesnt have to be mounted in the centre due to the lens type

SAsubi

give this guy an e-mail, jtco@sympatico.ca , he makes the plugs for the back of the navi stereo (about $28 USD).
see this thread http://www.subaruforester.org/vbulletin ... avi-51351/

then buy a NTSC camera from ebay (about $95 AUD)

then the install will take about 2 hours, maybe 3 if you have never pulled the car apart before

I got this camera off my mate, who was a installer, but I'm sure you can contact Mongoose directly.. http://www.mongoose.com.au/cameras--monitors.aspx

if you get one off eBay just make sure its a CCD camera (cheaper CMOS ones are not as good quality) and that it is also wide angle

What connector method has anyone used to make a true connection with those pins in the nav unit?

Bought the CCD unit off flebay:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/300638725115?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649

Connected it all up to the reverse lights and plugged it into the back of the screen and when i Put it in reverse ive the picture pops up but its flickering and in black and white. Ive checked the camera by plugging it into a portable tv and the picture comes up fine. Wondering if theres an issue with my unit picking up the sygnal correctly?

Can any1 help?

Cheers

SatNav accepts NTSC and your camera seems to be PAL which would account for the flickering and black/white colour.

As you probably already know now that you've installed the camera, the connector at the back of the SatNav is like a 4 pin EATX12V molex power connector as commonly used on motherboards.

Thanks man. Realised this morning that that was the problem. Trying to get hold of a NTSC equivalent ATM.

Thanks. Used this guide last night/ this morning to install my reverse camera.

I managed to pull the trunk lid outside rear trim off first time without breaking a clip, but sadly broke one when I removed it a second time when I had to make some adjustments to the cable length.

I'm a few months late on the reply haha

Glad it could help, and bugger about the clip, it's very fiddly!

Any pics of your install?

Thanks for the guide, very handy! I ended up getting the same brand camera on your suggestion (Mongoose MC304), very solid little camera and great quality from what I can tell :D

Finished installation:

Displaying on my nexus installation (still need to get it to auto display on reverse gear selection):

I also cracked my back panel, I wasn't using a large amount of force or anything, but must have just been at the wrong place

Big thanks to everyone that contribute to this thread. Just finished my install and I dare say it would have taken a hell of a lot longer without all this info. Cheers!
