With both connectors connected you should still be able to read it via ECUFlash - regardless of whether your ROM is supported by Romraider/LV OR ECUFlash. Basically you car should be able to be read by ECU Flash, but you just wont have any editable tables. To be able to be read however, the green connectors must be connected in the footwell as well as the ones on the drivers side. Note I never touched the connectors on the drivers side as they are connected from factory in my GT. However, ensure both are connected.

So when you start up ECU Flash, I presume you can see the icons coloured for read/test write/write etc? When clicking read, use the STI04 read method (this is the one I use) as it is for the 32 bit ECU's of that vintage.

Also which OS are you using? and did you use the FTDI driver listed prior OR are the tactrix drivers installed?

Thanks Lee,

I cannot recall if I tried the 2004 STI/WRX version during the Read, so I will give it another try tomorrow. I am reasonably sure that I would not get the fan cycling noise if any one of the green test connectors was disconnected. For me, I have left the passenger side footwell connectors permanently connected and have inserted a switch in the drivers side (located just in front of the OBDII Port). Seems to work well.

My OS in Windows XP with SP3 and the FTDI drivers were downloaded from the link on this webpage and I also confirmed the version via the WIndows Driver panel when checking the Serial Port connections/options.

Can you please confirm in detail all your USB Serial Port configuration? Mine are 4800 bps, 8 data bits, No parity, 1 stop bit, No Flow Control. There are also some Advance parameters that can be modified and it would be good if you can confirm yours for me as well.

Kind Regards,

Mark.

Has anyone got the VAG-COM cable working with correct drivers under 64-bit Windows 7?

Just want to make sure, this is the right cable for a my05 2.5i?

Going to give this a shot

*Just bought the cable, will see how i go. Might play around with some settings, maybe get the throttle response going a bit better

The biggest issue I think you'll find is that there wont be a defnition for your ECU
So without the def file, you can't do a thing. If you look at the romraider website, you'll find its mainly GTs and 3RBs supported. The only 2.5i is:
Liberty 2.5i
08 E2TB102M (MT)*

Now a definition can be made, but it will take some time IF there is someone who will do it. You may need to end up paying someone like XTreme Race Tuning (site sponsor) to develop the def file for you (if he can)

I was hoping that the GT one would work but with the fields that arent compatible being grayed out.

I'll have to work something out, really want to get this working

unfortunately it doesnt work like that. Every unique ECU ID/firmware has the tables etc in different locations and this is what is described in the "def file". So basically you need someone who can interpret the hex to work out WHERE the tables etc are located, how big they are etc. With the right software and knowledge it can be done in a few days/weeks. BUT average joe (including myself) can't just pick it up easily. Believe me I've as I've been working on the def file for my legnum with a number of others for some time and finding 1 correct address for lean spool is hard enough without defining a whole ECU :!:

which read method are you using in ecuflash?
Also have you tried learning view? Would be very useful for you. See if either romraider or learning view give you your ecu id

Also have you made sure the green connectors are together to put it in diagnostic mode?

The green connectors are joined and the thermos were switching on and off to indicate it.

In terms of what read mode, I didnt know there was different ways to read?
I just hooked it all up and hit read, tried each one of the options in the list but nothing worked

I'll give learning view a shot too

being my05 and a dbw ecu, I wouldn've expected sti04 read model to work
I'll get on my laptop later and do a bit more searching for you with the various read models. At the very least I'd expect 1 read model to work and then you can send me the hex file.

I've tried the latest version of ecuflash and v1.29
1.29 is where i got those errors in the latest version i didn't even get that far

Might try searching around to see what can be done

Pretty sure i used 1.38 the first time i tried this... The latter versions look for a license code in the cable, which is probably why you didnt get very far with the latest version.

Looking at the read def's it seems that the selection determines the mem model to be, and in particular:

<rom>
<romid>
<xmlid>read_sti04</xmlid>
<make>Subaru</make>
<market>ALL</market>
<model>DBW models</model>
<submodel>STi/FXT/LGT/Baja</submodel>
<year>2004</year>
<flashmethod>sti04</flashmethod>
<memmodel>SH7055</memmodel>
<checksummodule>subarudbw</checksummodule>
</romid>
</rom>

Therefore, sti04 should work for your car if its indeed drive by wire.

I'll try again today.
Would the thermos cycle if the green plugs on the drivers side aren't connected?
