UPDATE:

I contacted Cornelius via the Legacy GT forums in regards to the clear rings he got made to replace the black rings in the MY08, he still has 10-15 sets (pairs) available.

$12 USD a set shipped to Australia.

Send him a PM on the Legacy GT forums if you want a set :)

Same scenario as the MY07? (clear rings and but no lights)

Time to revive a year old thread. I'll be doing mine on Thursday, I need to install an Aux in cable so I may as well kill two birds with one stone. Thanks for the write up.

All done, nice and easy too I must say. Thanks to the OP for the write up (if he is still around).

In relation to some of the previous posts which suggest the MY07 doesn't have the clear rings/ blue illumination, I can confirm that my MY07 tbSTI definitely does have this as stock. Although they're not particularly bright, so the rings may need a clean. I presume they put these on the higher end models - 3.0R Spec B, GT, etc and only with the dual cup holders

The LED circuit diagram

(Don’t let this scare you – the steps are below in English!)

Image

Steps in English

• {skipped a few}
• Other end of red wire connect to + ve leg of LED 1
• Blue wire connect from –ve leg of LED 1 to +ve leg of LED 2
• Black wire connect from –ve end of LED 2 to the resistor
• Black wire connect from resistor to a second male connect tab – make wire long enough to reach back to the harness plug with some to spare.
...

So my particular vehicle already has illuminated cupholders, so I'm really here just for curiosity's sake. But I'm a little confused by your choosing to run both diodes in series.

When I look at your circuit, I see a problem when, in a few years' time, when an LED does eventually blow, both will no longer illuminate.

Wouldn't it work better with both lights in parallel, so excuse my crude circuit diagram (I don't have access to a visualisation program on my phone), like so:

{+}—{R / LED 1}—{E}
\__{R / LED 2}__/

Where R is the resistor appropriate for the application, + is source positive and E is negative earth.

Otherwise fantastic walkthrough, and I might be using it to do the blue->red LED mod further down the track...

Cheers,

Crampy
