DIY: Replace Cabin Filter

Postby overl0ad » Wed Dec 10, 2008 6:37 pm

ok, so i did mine, and i thought someone might want it as well.

part:

so you want to acces it from the passenger side.

yank on the little gap in the circle. don't worry, you won't break it.

you'll end up with this:

next you'll need to unhook the little string (top circle):

Image

then push inwards, towards the center of the glove box. it's got 2 clips (the bottom circle)

and on the other side:

end up with this off the hooks:

next, remove the center bit:

looking from below where the clips are:

photo of where the clips are:

now, we get to the actual filter bit, there are 4 little clips that you need to move to remove the actual filter housing.

Image

this is what you get

Image

remove the actual filter from the housing, notice the little clips holding it all down.

to put i back it, simply reverse order.

:)

Mmmmmm... Subaru is doing mine today... I wonder how much they are going to sting me on it? :P

From you very imformative post, at least I know they won't have an issue getting to it with my boost controller etc sitting in the CD storage slot :D

Good post mate! Need to get more of these online so we don't have to be stung by Subaru's inflated costs.

the filter is about $60 from suabru

but i've found it on ebay US for under USD$10... postage is like USD$22.50 or soemthign tho...

they are supposed to repalced every 2 years or 50,000kms.

mine was barely dirty so i just washed it out quickly and let it dry... keep the new one for the next change perhaps.

Mine was changed during a regular service today.
Total charge was $92, supply and install.
(They allow 12 minutes to do it.)

Does anyone know how to check if that glovebox side panel is actually removable? I heard in the earlier ones (MY04?) it is not removable and you have to go through a whole bigger process to get the glovebox out. I don't wanna pull too hard on the side panel and break something coz it's not removable!

Thanks.
