[How-To] Subwoofer Install

Postby Mickyboy » Wed Oct 10, 2012 7:51 pm

Hey Viper!
Thanks so much for the guide man. You're a legend!

I installed a MM840 today without a hitch. I wouldn't have even attempted it if it wasn't for you. I didn't do the Dynamat but I may do it at a later date because I've still got a bit of rattle in the parcel shelf.

Thanks again man! :D

Mick.

Hey viper, top DIY install mate. That's exactly how I want to do mine.

Can I ask, how much did the dynamat set you back and how much of it did you get to do the parcel shelf alone?
Cheers

I was contemplating this same idea, but... don't think it will sound that great witout some sort of enclosure. That being said, does anyone know of an enclosure for the sub in the boot?

Viper awesome walk through. Love the detail....

Anyway I know this might be a really stupid question but has anyone tried doing this to their amp?

I know a lot of people say the aftermarket sub is under driven. Just thinking this may be able to help and wondering if people have tried it...

Damnit, I never get updates on this thread ;p

Dynamat was about $40 a sheet i think. Needed two sheets. Probably could have gotten it cheaper online, but it was there ;p

@Tim, I'll get pics of the gap this week too, I promise ;p

And thanks for that link cvas, I will give this a shot over Christmas ;p

Legend.

Also on that page there is a link to more details about the amp including pinouts and that sort of thing. Pretty useful page for info on the amp I reckon.

Anyway, that amp model is from the 98-03 Legacy. Would they be the same as whats in the later cars do you think?

That's what I'll find out ;p

Tim_ wrote:If your going to take a pic, could you please snap a pic of where you moved the little plastic clip to? Also can you confirm that 1) there is no flexing noise from your boot and 2) When the boot is closed is the magnet in the sub causing the tortion bar to stick to the sub? You mentioned you have about 3mm gap when boot is closed, i would of thought the power of the magnet would pull the bar into it?
Cheers
Tim

So seems I was wrong and the boot. The torsion bars now seem to be bind right up against the bottom of the sub.
Looks like I'm also making a spacer over the break too ;p

Hmm, weird. Both albums were set to private, but I thought linked images should still be ok. Stupid PhotoBucket.
Anyway, both are public now.

Great Write Up! I attempted it a few days ago. Only diff is I used a Polk Audio 8" DB840 which required a 30mm spacer!

Will this guide work for a 3rd gen B4?
I noticed my sub on the rear shelf doesn't work. All 4 speakers and 2 tweeters work fine.

Any way to adjust the sub level or is my sub dead?
