Water snorkel? Pretty crude way of doing it though.

Workmanship like that deserves to be done on a paddock basher, not a forester like that, what was this person thinking?? would have been better buying a safari kit instead.

Useless on a petrol engine if you go in the water

not an uncommon mod for the Foz... when I was involved with www.offroadsubarus.com a lot of guys were doing this...

it is very effective, as it stops water ingress, and potential hydrolocking when doing water crossings... that this car also has the grille blocked would suggest that this is one of the uses for the "snorkel" that has been added to it. also if you're doing a lot of work in dusty conditions, the pre-filter this one has fit would be invaluable...

Had a day up in Wombat State Park in my MY04 XT a couple of years back, and had to throw out the filter afterwards, as it was solid with compressed dust.

I guess it's one of those "don't knock it until you try it" things...

If I was still taking our Forester off-road, it would absolutely have a snorkel fitted to it, for river crossings and dust, as well as the electronics being sealed against water ingress.

Safari don't make one specifically for any Subaru, however the one for the Rodeo can be modified slightly to look like it's meant to be there...

That's all well and good, but...

What happens when... i don't know... it rains???

Also, the silicon isn't even clamped on...

you'll find that there is most likely a bracket attached to the A-pillar...

What about when it rains???

I was talking about the blue silicone straight connectors.

Cars love drinking water through the intake.

Have a look at the design again. What do normal Snorkels have covering the air filter that this one doesn't?

Weather it was practical or not... It just looks like an Epic Fail on a Forester :P

Almost as bad as my mates idea to put truck stacks on Ze Beast aka TDI Caddy :P
