I was surprised to see that the plane didn't break up when contact was made.

This has dragged up some other memories for me of people doing strange things with Aircraft and water...

There was this Cub pilot who liked to walk on water

Then there are the Texan/Harvard/Wiarraway pilots who like to get their feet wet.

Also don't forget that Matt Hall's aircraft would have been in Ground Effect. This can be both a blessing and a curse. In Matt's case it was a blessing - and it can be a curse when they are trying to do the Touch and Go as part of the race.

Lucky it has powerful control surfaces to beat the sudden drag the water would induce.

I was surprised he managed to keep it out of the drink, it looked sketchy on the news.
