Haunted Hills Hillclimb

Postby adhar » Sun Aug 30, 2009 6:30 pm

Hi guys,

I thought i'd show everyone what i was up to during the miserable rain yesterday. I went to Gippsland Car Clubs' new track at Haunted Hills with the WRX club. It looked like it was going to clear up in the morning with the first run of the day being quite dry, but after that the heavens opened up and ruined the day for quick times, but i had fun, i enjoy driving in the wet - it makes it a challenge! 8)

Its a really good track, very windy and tight, i only get into third once, and plenty of up and down hills, with one corner being named the 'oh shit' corner as everyone comes over the hill and can't pull up!

My times were quicker than most of the modified WRXs (mainly because they had R rated tyres, not the best choice for conditions) I came 14th out of 40 cars.

The weather made for an interesting day, i had a couple of photos taken early in the day, but after that my photographer (Dad) didn't want to be out in the wind and rain)

Don't be shy. What WAS your time? :)

(Mine was 1:11.15 in the MGA, someone else did 1:00.37 in a very hot MGB)

My first was a bit slippery...

No, a friend of mine did it last year, and had fun. I just missed watching the first one in 2006, we spent a few nights on holiday in Mt Gambier two weeks before it happened, and I only found out about it while we were there.
It seems they had too many entries last year: http://www.borderwatch.com.au/archives/1587
I wonder if they'll find some way to cater for more this year.

Here's a vid of someone doing it. There's a big oopsy at 45 seconds! ;)

and a bloopers tape from the same year. The sound effects are a bit cheesy. Watch for the WRX STi at the 2:00 mark.

ive been to a couple and they always have plenty of entry's, its a good day out. that V8 4WD datsun always seems to be there, and a lot of other fast cars. they had a V8 super car one year. would make a good road trip if a few members wanted to go, and maybe even enter!
