i can't understand how you can upload these images to look so sharp. whenever i resize to post they end up looking a lot softer.

its just direct from my hard drive lol. makes me resize to under 256kb i don't have a flickr

also got a new lens today, couldn't pass up the sale + 200 dollar cashback sony have at the moment.

its a sony G lens 28-135 f4 with steady shot and power zoom.


I've been trying to upload a picture taken with the lens but its not letting me. ill make a flickr account another day and upload it.

That's where your problem lies. Resizing always reduces quality when posting. When I upload I am uploading it from LR5 which sets it up as a lower sized image without losing quality, then I upload it to Flickr which keeps that quality but doesnt touch the size of the shot.

For sure. Im an LR5 advocate. Give the free month trial a crack before biting the bullet and paying for it though. Gives you time to get used to all the features, study the you tube tutorials and play around with it.

yea I've had lr5 its pretty easy to use, and everyone is telling me lr6 is crap.

Very nice. I just took the plunge late yesterday and bought a Zeiss Batis 25mm f2.0 myself. Will hopefully receive it in time for this weekend for some sharp happy-snap action!

The resizing parameters are simply too aggressive then. Do the resizing yourself and then upload instead. Using the GIMP I can resize a 24 megapixel photo down to 1536x1024 at 80% quality to get it under 256K and it still looks pretty decent to me (though I wouldn't want to reduce quality any further).

Using a sample pic I took at last week's Oz Comic Con:


Click the image to see the original unedited photo 6000x4000, 6.3MB JPEG - straight from the camera.

The above pic re-saved at 85% quality without resizing is reduced to 2.5MB.
The above pic re-sized to 2048x1536 and saved at 85% quality is reduced to 418K.
The above pic re-sized to 1536x1024 and saved at 80% quality is reduced to 240K.
The thumbnail above is 720x480 saved at 85% quality and comes in at 112K.

So definitely doable.
