Finally found my new liberty..

Postby Stifull » Sat Jun 08, 2019 10:59 pm

Well after 10 months+ of looking I finally found my new Lib today.. It was love at first sight and it was calm and felt right and just fell into place like we were meant for each other.. It is a mechanically stock 05/2007 Liberty GT. The only mechanical mod so far is a set of TEIN coilovers.. It's done 170,000ks and all recalls etc have been done. It had an overheating issue last year so the owner had the radiator and all the hoses replaced but it turned out it had the dreaded head gasket issue. Subaru mechanic replaced the head gaskets, skimmed the heads, new studs, timing belt etc etc and it goes very nicely for a stock car. The owner also had the McIntosh or whatever the stereo is called, removed and an Alpine system installed as well as new controls for the climate control installed as well as an amp under the passenger seat and some you beaut speakers mounted in the doors as well as a 12" sub box in the boot that sits the other side of the fold down middle seat.. It sounds awesome.. Crisp, clear and good base.. The seller is a bit of an audiophile. He had the car professionally detailed last week and it has come up like new. Not a scratch or dent on the entire surface and just the smallest of almost un-noticable gutter rash.. It has Re003 tyres in good condition on 18s with new T2 slotted rotors and new pads. I went over it with a fine tooth comb this afternoon and the only thing I could fault with it was the front inner drive shaft boot on the passenger side is split. the drivers side looks newish. it also has a blown brake light on the drivers side. but everything else is good. The seller was very happy that I thought the car was soooo well prepared and probably one of the nicest Libertys I have seen. He has already replaced it with a new BRZ which was very nice as well.. We hit it off very well and took it for a 30 minute test drive followed by a 10 minute drive in my blue rex.. He thought that was pretty awesome. He had never been in a truly quick car before. He couldn't stop smiling.. He also said I could have the Satnav unit that is on the dash which is a nice little bonus. I said I would get my own roadworthy and get the boot and what ever else sorted and he let me have the car for $8500... :D Couldn't be happier. It comes with full service history, the black and white slim line plates. full body kit, 2x weather shields, honeycomb grill, and all the old parts including grill and struts. Anyway.. this is the photo section so enjoy... Cheers...

So let the performance mods begin.. I am after a VF52, TBE , fuel pump, injectors and a tune so if anyone has any of those please let me know.. I am not sure what to do with the old struts but they may be of use for someone...

Thanks.. Yes.. I was going to offer him $9.2 or there abouts and see what happened , but instead I asked what was the lowest price he would be comfortable with and he said would I be happy with $8.5 ... :D ... I was very happy with that...LOL...
Location is Brisbane Northside but the seller has them at Redbanks Plains and will be taking him to where the car is stored (he has a lock up carpark where he works so it's living there till sold) at Eight Mile Plains so one of those places might suit it better. they are stock shocks, not Bilsteins...
It all fell into place so well there was no doubt it was the car for me.. I didn't even have to adjust the seat or mirrors... Just got in and it was perfect...I had been a bit anxious about getting another car as there is nothing wrong with any of the others we have and being retired, you have to be careful with what you buy, plus it's a moral thing about possessions for me as well so I never do anything if it doesn't feel right.. Can hardly wait to drive it again.. It is such a nice machine..
My youngest son (20) want to buy the blue one but one of my concerns with that is it is a very quick car with no airbags. He learnt to drive in that car and did a defensive driving course in it at Lakeside on the dry and the wet tracks and has been driving it since he was 15 up to the letterbox etc and he is very familiar with the car but the boys often do late night drives up and over Mt Glorious and young men will be young men and i am a bit fearful for him despite him being a responsible young man. My eldest son (28) has an equally fast Sti and has never had an issue and only ever had 1 fine but his Sti has airbags..

Shame that "Black Beauty" isn't a manual. :( :(

Plus peer pressure and wanting to be a part of or accepted by the "in" crowd can have you making the wrong choice/decision.
I understand your fears totally.

Hi Pedro.. It is actually that darkish grey colour.. I wouldn't have got it if it was black. I'm not a fan of black cars but I love that grey color. Black cars are impossible to keep looking nice especially if there is dust around and my neighbour who shares the driveway has 75 meters of dirt once he goes through his gate so that ends up on our cars..The GT is the same colour as my youngest daughters 09 Impreza and it stays looking clean even when a bit dusty. The hunt for the Lib all started because I wanted an auto. My wife's previous wrx hatch was an auto and was a lot of fun.. The paddle shifts make it pretty awesome. My entire rev head family is going " oh Dad, why did you get an auto" ..but they haven't been in it yet. I am looking forward to having some drags.. There is a quiet 100k zone about a KLM from our house and it perfect for some "comparison" tests..

Black or Grey, I just love the sheen on it, it is fantastic.

I used to own a 2000 RX Liberty in Red Mica and it was PITBA to keep clean, slightest hint of dust and it showed up on the car.

My 2016 Honda CRV is Modern Steel which is also a Dk Grey colour too, it also has gearshift paddles which are great for overtaking.

The seller can't drive a manual and also has never used the paddle shift.. He said he was always scared to use it because he didn't want to break something so he just left it in normal auto mode. I am looking forward to getting used to the paddles. The bank transfer has happened so I will be picking it up tomorrow. The "sheen" is because he just had it detailed last week and he is keeping it locked up undercover at his work place to keep it clean and safe, other wise it would be sitting in the street outside his house so I can't go and get it tonight... Oh well, another sleepless night .. I got it added to our insurance with shannons this afternoon and they have insured it for $12k which is probably what it is worth in it's condition. The insurance is only $480 a year with $600 excess so I am happy with that. I have 4 cars insured with them and they know I cant drive them all so they are all on 2 day a week average usage for 3 of them which suits me.. I am retired and don't do that many ks these days.. They are aware that my wifes rex is a daily but i am still paying less for 4 cars than my son pays for his 1 sti...LOL...He hates that...I found a 2nd hand cat back Xforce exhaust system today which I am picking up Friday. It will at least sound like a WRX then.. I also found a downpipe but it is off a 2014 wrx and i am not 100% sure it will fit.. Also found a VF 52 but I think I will just chill and enjoy the car for a while before I start to mod it. Besides it will cost $$$ to have it retuned and I need to sus that out before adding stuff to the car. I need some breathing space. This has all been a bit stressful especially with dodgee people trying to sell me cars with engines and serial numbers that don't match etc..

Woohoo. Picked the car up this morning. Got a RWC and had the transfer done so it's all done and dusted. Only problem for the RWC was a brake light bulb .. I turned the sub around so it faces through the rear seat centre opening.. Sound system is awesome . It has an excellent "phone" option that works a treat and lots of doof doof capability..It handles very well despite stock sways. The Tein coil overs seem to be a good option.

Two questions... How do you get to the number plate bulbs ??? do the lens covers clip off or do you go in via the inside of the boot lid ?

Other question is where do you turn on the Daytime Driving lights. I can't find a switch .. I am thinking maybe they were disabled as part of Aus compliance. Do they normally just come on with parkers etc. We have had several grey imports and a couple of those had lights removed or disabled as part of compliance. Living in the country with roos etc, the more lights the better.. I may connect them up to the normal head lights if they have been disconnected..
