Yep, thanks for your support also. It seems there is a whole bunch of "Police in action" examples to relate to...
I have an ex-police friend who is one of the good ones that left the force. He said the arrogance from some of these guys is untamed by the hierarchy, so that's why we see these Captain Planet examples. I still respect the police, giving them the respect they deserve. I was pulled over for an RBT (Epping Road, Marsfield, 11pm - down the road from the Ranch: which is one of their favourite haunts). They had the sign, there was 8 of them and it was an orderly slick operation.

senator wrote:Cut him some slack, working a sunny weekend, on the side of highway you would be full of attitude too.

Beside the point he shouldn’t be working alone on a RBT and his location in reference to car and cones wasn’t right, he should be standing by the car waving you into the lane marked by the cones ….. I guess another bad example of a mouth breather our tax dollars keep alive, this muppets don’t do justice for the real officers that actually do their jobs correctly and without attitude.

I find it best to say nothing at all when you come across of these “special ones” I recently got pulled over for using rear fog lights during heavy down pour on the M2 at about 5am a few weeks back. Coped an ear full the minute I pulled over as the officer quoted he couldn’t see my brake lights, after I pointed out the my third brake light is 2 foot long and ran along the top of the rear windscreen , he went ape shit and asked for my driver’s licence.
So I took my time getting my wallet from the centre consoled meanwhile Captain planet was getting soaked. He claimed he should be issuing an infringement and told me how lucky I was I wasn’t getting one…… I still said nothing…… waited for him to return to the car, waited a little longer and then finally took off when I noticed his car roll forward……… mean while my fog lights remained on as now traffic was building up and I had to re-join the traffic travelling at 100km/h…. he continued to following me (fog lights still on) for a few more k’s, whilst I cautiously used the brake pedal a number of times in order to maintain safety gap from the imagery car in front.

It's a Blackvue DR400G-HD II recording at 1080p. It's old hardware now and there are better ones available with higher recording bit rates and in-built wifi so you can review footage on your phone without removing the memory card, etc etc.

An indipensible piece of hardware I reckon, and has caught many an incident or amusing situation. :)

So what brand do you recommend as a better in car video unit, these days? Go Pro?

A Go Pro gives great image quality, but it is not an event recording camera.

My Blackvue is designed specifically to record events. ie: It records continuously in one minute blocks while moving, stops recording and starts a new recording in an "emergency" situation, eg: sudden braking buffering back a few seconds, will also operate in a "parked" mode while the car is off where the camera is watching but not recording unless movement is detected either through the lens or physically, such as when someone bumps into the car with their car, etc.

The parked mode automatically occurs when the car has been idle for 10 minutes, or you can tap a button on the side to toggle modes.

The included software also reads the recorded GPS and G-Force information and plays it back on any Windows PC showing your location on Google Maps and graphing the G-Force and displaying speed at that time of the recording. The G-Forces recorded are in the X, Y and Z axis'.

Finally, the unit has an onboard battery to allow it to safely empty the recorded buffer, close the file and then cleanly switch off when power is lost (eg: if in a frontal collision where the car's battery is crushed).

So to answer your question, despite the better image quality, my first choice for a car video unit would not be a Go Pro. Blackvue have a range of new hardware, but there are also new no-name competitors in the market offering upwards to 720p and 1080p quality for cheap prices. I originally paid about $300 for my Blackvue unit (retail was $449 at the time) - they are cheaper now.

macattaq, if you don't need a Dash Cam straight away I would suggest you wait a bit longer until this Dash Cam is released. This dash Cam is designed by an Aussie for Aussie conditions but is being built in China for cost reasons and due for release shortly.

Don't be alarmed by the size in the pictures, the actual size is roughly the same size as a credit card, a stealthy installation it's small size makes it a bit harder to see from outside of the vehicle.

I have an Itronics ITB-100HD Dash Cam, great camera for what I use it for, it has been superseded by the Itronics ITB-100HD SP.

Dash Cams are evolving like computers have.
