My Other Toy

Postby Mikey » Mon Oct 10, 2011 2:46 pm

Hey guys, thought I'd show everyone my other project that's been taking up most of my time and money ha. It's a 1968 Datsun 1000 pickup. I built it to look like the JDM sunny trucks of japan. Just got to finish tiding it up and fit a set of fender mirrors and I'll be done. Problem is my dreaded back problem is back so I might have to put it up on the market.

Looks great man. Got to love old school odd ball rides like these (ie my Sherpa).

If you don't mind me asking, what are your back issues? The reason I ask is; over the last 3 years or so, I have been having my own back issues. 3 L5\S1 discectomy's and a fusion. I've been on opiate based painkillers, neurological pain killers for nerve damage which put me into some pretty deep depression which I am coming out of slowly... With the help of some pretty tasty anti depressants  the anti depressants are also used for neurological pain as well, two birds one pill kind of thing. If you wanna PM me or something feel free, there isn't much worse than long term back pain so I'm more than happy to chat about some pointers on pain management etc that have helped me.

Keep up the good work on the ride, distractions like these sorts of hobbies can be a big help on the mental health if not the physical side of things.

Anyway, hit me up if you want to chat.

Cheers Phil, Yeah I had a big car crash exactly a year ago Friday :( I rolled a work Mitsubishi Triton and I was towing a car trailer with an old Hilux on the back. Did the death wobbles and then spun us around and just missed a semi trailer and rolled 1 and half times down an embankment. Ended on the passengers side. My passenger has epilepsy now from hitting his head and I have 2 prolapsed discs. :( Had a nerve block injection last december and It's lasted till now. They want to operate but I'm not sure if I want to yet so I'm on painkillers and Anti D's too. Its hard, I've had 3 major surgery's and I dont want to rush into another yet. I had a Nissan Gazelle Drift/Road Car but had to sell it cause of the roughness on my back. I built this ute to take my mind off everything and it's worked but I got it on the road and found its too small and uncomfy for my back. I get a numb left leg when driving and sharp stabing pains in the lungs also. i find the Liberty really good but also my job doesn't help me, I'm an earth moving mechanic and its not good at all on my back. The fun of back problems, Can't fix them but can make them tolerable.

I'm going to buy some fender mirrors for this too, the ones on there are GT mirrors and theres a few falcon blokes that are pushing me for them and really they are useless cause you can't see a bloody thing cause they are too close to the driver. I dont know what to do, keep it and use it on the weekend but it's prob no point cause if it hurts my back. love the little ute but its no good for me. I've also Got a 1959 Morris Minor sedan that I'm doing a bare metal respray on it but I've got it in etch prime and I had the crash so havent done anymore. Sanding and bogging isnt good on the back. Thinking about getting rid of all of them and getting something more comfy to drive to work in.
