Non-Liberty Post From Arith

Postby Arith » Mon Sep 26, 2011 11:30 pm

Hey guys! Long time no talk! I've been hiding away since getting the Volvo, hoping to spruce it up a bit in a hurry so that it's some what presentable. Mods for the Volvo are scarce, so it's a fraction to what I am able to do compared with the Liberty. Since fellow alumni members have returned with their rides, I thought I would do the same.

Let me just say Liberty.Asn is one of the best forums out there! I joined up the Volvo forums and 95% of the posts are all about needing help with something broken or needing advice on how to fix such and such. And their definition of "modification" is installing a factory accessory!

Anyway, this the car I got after the Liberty. It's a 2010 Volvo XC60. Managed to fix it up a bit with lowering springs, front and rear spoiler, quad exhaust and wheels before handing it over to the wife. :D

Then for some reason I ended up with .... another Volvo! You're probably thinking "WTF?!" Yes, I know! I went from zero to 2 Volvos in less than a few months. I dunno. I think I must have been high on drugs. But after 6 weeks I've managed to fix it up a bit. Went a different direction to the Liberty though, although not by much.

A big thanks to Phil B from Phil B Enterprises (one of the users on here) for rolling my guards! He has a mobile service and does great work so if anyone in the Sydney area needs guard rolling, contact him!

Very nice styling as always Arith. How are you finding the car's performance and everything compared to your STi?

The front end looks aggressive! If only it didn't have the volvo badge :D

Thanks Hamish. Performance is a bit sad compared to the Liberty. But then again, there are hardly any performance parts for it, and Volvo has a protective Nanny on the ECU so I can't get it tuned. Don't get me wrong it's no slug, but it's not as aggressive as the Liberty. Just have to enjoy the comfort for the time being. :D

Why the move again? I Thought it was to stop spending money on mods?

Love the quad tip exhaust! What's next, big brake kit?

That's what the wife wanted, not me! But if anything I probably spent more money on mods than I should because everything has to be customised.

Luckily the S60 comes with 4-pot fronts and 2-pot rear as standard! Probably because it's such a heavy car and needs all the stopping power it can. Just need to paint the calipers. :D

Love the wheels on both rides.. Not a fan of Volvo but this one are very good looking with a good light modified.

It's 2.5L turbo engine(I guess, same engine with Focus ST/XR5), and front wheel drive. Volvo hardly making cars RWD.

If I it's wrong, please forgive me.. hehe..

LOL! The sedan is the Volvo S60, which is based on the Ford Mondeo platform as Ford used to own Volvo. The model I have is called the T6, which runs a 3.0 6-cylinder engine with a twin scroll turbo (same as the pre-facelift Liberty). And it's AWD. Guess once you go AWD there's no going back. :D The 4-wheel drive is the XC60, which is also a T6 running the 3.0 turbo. The T6 is 224 kw with 440 Nm of torque.

But yeah, Volvo is really trying to spruce up their image. Everything you thought about when you think Volvo has now changed. I'm trying to take it a step further.

Danny, I've LED everything you can possible LED already from day 1. Damn you I miss Nyoomi!

In terms of performance and the availability of modifications. The Volvo is a bit more luxury and comfort, whereas the Lib was more aggressive. Same for the handling as the Volvo is a heavy car and cornering is not as precise. But otherwise it's a great car. Fully loaded with everything and then some, and the seats are ultra comfortable. Feels solid and they have sound insulated every single panel you can think of.

Jim Boy my friend it's been faaar too long!

Great work with the cars... As you know I'm a bit of a Volvo fan, just none of the new models could support my lust for sports / performance :(

Nice cars Jim, Volvo has always made good cars. Heavy but comfortable, very easy to drive and safe. I reckon if you scout hard enough online you'll find somewhere that's doing performance parts for the Ovlos, turbobricks.com would be a good place to ask.
