Are you serious?

Why wouldn't I be? I'm just trying to make the point that selling better than a previous model is not an accurate judge of performance as there are a ton of other variables involved.

EDIT: In fact I'll go one step further; it's not just a small minority of internet users, to me it seems to be most people who have loved Libertys in the past and/or have owned one. The subaru dealer in my area even said he knew that they couldn't hope to market the car the same way to the same target market as previous, it's not just about it looking different.

Why wouldn't a key performance indicator of the success of a model be how well it's selling?

I really don't give a shit what the people on this forum think about the car. It only ever goes as far as "hur hur it looks like a turd". When it comes down to dynamics, I'd be more inclined to trust someone that reviews cars for a living.

I never mentioned what people on this forum think, I was talking general opinion. I haven't actually bagged the Gen V I'm pretty sure it's even in this thread that I said I think they have potential with cosmetic mods. I think that with the right wheels and ride height it can look great!

As for critics, what they say stands for little in my opinion. I never make a decision based on a critics opinion of a movie, food, phone, tv whatever it is. Feedback from fellow consumers is always a better indicator...

THE key thing is how it is selling.

The fact it is more like a Camry makes it more appealing to the mass market, so it sells more, so they will continue to refine in the direction they have.

Subaru decided they wanted to make a car with broad market appeal. So they did. It appeared to work.

The Gen V is not a 'drivers car', it's a mass market car. No-one is pretending it isn't - the advertising is all about safety and comfort (leg room etc) not about performance...

And I just wanted to mention, number of units sold is still not an accurate reflection on improved sales.

A more accurate measure would be an increase in the number of sales relative to the total number of cars sold in Australia.

Just being anal :assassin:

The comparison I saw noted that it was selling better regardless of the increase in new car sales in the overall market. Subaru was worried more that it was eating into sales of the forrester model.

What, like the Impreza and the WRX in the new model? The GT was never the best selling variant of the Liberty range, and you want them to use a completely different platform to constrain the size? For what purpose? To make you happy?

It would be stupid to change the name.

The old car (rightly or wrongly) had a reputation for being a vehicle of Euro feel and Jap build quality.

They've now attached that reputation to a car built for fleets and it's worked. Although private sales have actually gone down, fleet sales (which were previously non-existent) are driving them to new sales records.

Might not make some people happy, but it's the shareholders who matter.

Matter of opinion, you have yours and I have mine. Nonetheless, completely immature; find one post where I've bagged the Gen V.
