Looking at buying a fairly decent tripod for my Nikon D5000 and was wondering what you guys used. Any brand reccommendations or brands to avoid?
I've had a look a few SLIK and Manfrotto tripods. I've noticed a massive price difference between stores for identicle models. $55 - $160 for a SLIK F740 for example. Is there anything I should be looking at getting included?

As long as it's sturdy, brand doesn't really matter, except for the quick release plate intercompatibility.

Oh ok, a salesman mentioned the quick release issue the other night.

Ok thanks for that, i'll go get a decent sturdy cheap one then.

Lately I've been taking photos for my mates who are in a band. They seem to like the shots I'm producing, so it looks like I'm their official photographer :)

Haha Ric, you should see the people that go to these gigs. They have about 20 of those things in their face.

Thanks Chris, I'm using a Nikon D90. Those shots were taken with my favourite lens; the 105mm macro.

Love the first one.

Second one's good but to me it's not visually interesting having everything so symmetrical.

Not a fan of that last one. What's it showing?

Chris, first two pics are amazing.

Third one is terrible though, what were you thinking!
Not enough of the picture is in focus for it to be a decent out of focus picture!

The third one was using the idea that the viewer would be drawn to the texture of the rock...that is all. It's not meant to focus on the water.

Think of it like an abstract picture. You expect to be looking at one thing, but are drawn to another.
