why do the other cars have there wipers up?

The theory is your wipers can freeze to the windscreen - snow or water freezes on your wipers and when you turn them on you can rip the rubber out. Having said that I have never seen it happen...

Not such an issue in snow, more freezing rain.

edit: in fact looking back this is a photo where the wipers have been shopped out :)

the weight can bend your wiper arms when you turn them on by mistake (seen it done) so by putting them in the up position turrn them on and everything is ok, no bending

The first carpark photo is a pretty common sight down here. Where I work on any given day there are 5 or 6 Subaru's sitting around.

If you do organise a snow trip next season let me know and I'll do 10% off for anyone needing to rent ski/snowboard gear
