Got the AVO mufflers today. :good:

Putting them on was easy, they were a straight swap and a good fit. came with gaskets, bolts/nuts and adjustable chrome tips.

car sounds louder than stock but not annoying. has a really nice deep tone which i like. no rasp. no farts. I don't have a Sound level meter but at a guess i'd say they're around 15-25% louder than stock (inside car) and probably from the outside.

after driving for a while I've found it's most loud at low rev's up to ~2,500RPM after that it starts to loose it's low end sound. There's a little resonance at 100Kph but it didn't become what i would call a 'drone' until the engine was under load going up steep roads at 100Kph. even then the word 'drone' would be an exaggeration.

will post pics soon once my pic host comes back online.

haven't had a good chance to hear it from outside yet, but from what i have heard it's very nice.

Happy with my purchase.

AVO MUFFLERS VIDEO LINK

I did the best video i could for the time i had.
was recorded with samsung S7.

it's not going to tell you what it sounds like in person, but both stock and avo mufflers are recorded with the same device so they can be compared to each other.

hopefully someone knows a bit about this (thanks in advance)
1) I've got a K&N panel filter in, do i need to re-tune?
2) will a K&N filter destroy the turbo?
3) I've also got some avo mufflers on their way. If i put them on with the K&N filter, will i need a re-tune?
:?:

You shouldn't need a re-tune with a K&N - BUT being oilable, some of the oil can suck through and coat your AFM (air flow meter) and then screw with its readings - most tuners say to avoid them for that reason alone.

But the K&Ns have one other big problem, they allow through more fine dust/grit into your engine (=wear) , and they really only flow a tiny bit better than a stock paper unit when clean, but worse when dirty - personally I think they are a bit of a con.

Well known comparison of aftermarket filters for a Duramax vs stock in the USA a few years back, measured using a flow bench and how much dust/grit got through by mass...

Nice Wagon! Happy with the exhaust?

I've got a Gen5 auto wagon as well, looking at doing the new dump pipe but wasn't sure on the mufflers.

Thanks :good:
gen 5'ers don't get told "nice" very often

yeah, i'm actually very happy with them. Which is surprising coz it's always such a gamble when changing exhaust (if you're gonna like the tone and volume etc). but yeah, now ive been driving with them for a while i like them even more and am very happy with them.

i was in the front yard the other day and i heard a really sweet sounding subi in the distance. it turned a corner and started coming down my street. i looked up to spy the source of this sweet ear nectar, and holy crap, it was my wife driving my car... it was my car. XD that really clinched it for me. sounds good in and out the car.

so ya i'm keeping them. in fact, i'm so happy with them i'm keen to try the avo dump pipe with a tune. Maybe even the avo EL headers (eventually).

If you do get the AVO dump i'm keen to know what you think.
also, i like ur wheels! wot they?

haha awesome glad to hear you're happy with them, i might look into a set in the future! It is a bit of a gamble sometimes!

They are STI Enkei 18" Rims. I've only had it for about a week, happy with it so far! :)
