Got the AVO mufflers today. :good:

Putting them on was easy, they were a straight swap and a good fit. came with gaskets, bolts/nuts and adjustable chrome tips.

car sounds louder than stock but not annoying. has a really nice deep tone which i like. no rasp. no farts. I don't have a Sound level meter but at a guess i'd say they're around 15-25% louder than stock (inside car) and probably from the outside.

after driving for a while I've found it's most loud at low rev's up to ~2,500RPM after that it starts to loose it's low end sound. There's a little resonance at 100Kph but it didn't become what i would call a 'drone' until the engine was under load going up steep roads at 100Kph. even then the word 'drone' would be an exaggeration.

will post pics soon once my pic host comes back online.

haven't had a good chance to hear it from outside yet, but from what i have heard it's very nice.

Happy with my purchase.

AVO MUFFLERS VIDEO LINK

I did the best video i could for the time i had.
was recorded with samsung S7.

it's not going to tell you what it sounds like in person, but both stock and avo mufflers are recorded with the same device so they can be compared to each other.

hopefully someone knows a bit about this (thanks in advance)
1) I've got a K&N panel filter in, do i need to re-tune?
2) will a K&N filter destroy the turbo?
3) I've also got some avo mufflers on their way. If i put them on with the K&N filter, will i need a re-tune?
:?:

You shouldn't need a re-tune with a K&N - BUT being oilable, some of the oil can suck through and coat your AFM (air flow meter) and then screw with its readings - most tuners say to avoid them for that reason alone.

But the K&Ns have one other big problem, they allow through more fine dust/grit into your engine (=wear) , and they really only flow a tiny bit better than a stock paper unit when clean, but worse when dirty - personally I think they are a bit of a con.

Well known comparison of aftermarket filters for a Duramax vs stock in the USA a few years back, measured using a flow bench and how much dust/grit got through by mass...

Makes sense to me. Thanks for the link, was an interesting read.

the reason i ask is because ive never had a turbo car before. how sensitive are they?

It seems the K&N debate has been going for a while. I think, though, it has to be taken on a case-by-case basis. to say that a type of filter is, or is not, good for all cars (unless they make big power)is a bit of a stretch.
if you have a sohc honda engine (e.g. D16Z2/A6) you'd be foolish not to put a hi-flow filter in it :)

also, I've run K&Ns on my motorcycles (road and track bikes) and after inspection the cylinders, pistons all internals were perfect, clean and undamaged (on a road bike that had done 60,000K's with a K&N).

so does this translate to the liberty?

Maybe someone needs to do a particle combustion test to see the tolerance of particle size before they're unable to be combusted in the engine. then cross reference the resulting data with the average particle size a K&N will let pass through at it's different stages of cleanliness. also, what do these particles do to the turbo itself.

I'm not saying K&N is better and i'm not saying paper is better. just my 2c, from my experience with bikes... and my old honda

soooooo.... i'm trying to understand my car better and i'm looking at the vin no. for my 2010 gen v.... with surprisingly little success

according to what i've found my gt is a manual.... but it's not.... so either it's had an auto swap  or i'm not looking at the correct reference.

if anyone is able to help out would be great, the vin is
JF1BR9KV3AG00183

JF1 - is FHI Fuji Heavy Industry passenger vehicle, made in Japan
B - is Legacy
R - Wagon
9 - i assume means AWD turbo or 2.5T
the rest are unknown
004183 - Sequential number
