Mesh Grille Mod

Postby MH3.0R » Sun Sep 12, 2010 6:14 pm

Guys and Gals,

Decided to tackle my own Grille Mod after getting lots of inspiration from previous threads. I did the standard cut out as previously listed in other threads:

Cruisn Mod at viewtopic.php?f=10&t=7770

Some photos of the finished cut and spray of the original grille:

Then I fitted the mesh directly in front of the radiator with the bend tucked under the front bumper plastic and on top of the white foam packing.

Image

I then placed the finished grille in front of the mesh and snapped it back into it's original place, replacing the four round fasteners.

Image

Then the finished version looks like this:

I know the pictures are not great, and I do not profess to be any sort of photographer. If you want a closer look, come along to the cruise on 17 Oct and I can take it apart pretty quickly.

Some additional finishing will be to fill the cut-out bits (fibreglass and body filler) followed by another rub, spray, rub, spray, etc.., to finish. Most probably after Bathurst and after the cruise.

Looks great Mark.
How did you convince the wife to let you spend your time doing that instead of chores around the house?

Needs a badge on there though, perhaps 'Shadow Minister of Finance'?

Personally I will be using a thicker mesh for my Grill if I decide to change it, maybe it's just the pics but you see too much of the radiator. Will have to take a look at it on the next cruise, either way well done.

All comments are valid from all who care to make them.

I have pondered several times about getting rid of the chrome. The deciding vote will be....

The director of finance! She who must be obeyed! In order to fund the next mod of course. :D

Chrome. No chrome. Looks good either way on a white car. Great job Mark! Glad to see the factory grille can be recycled.

Umm, aren't all aftermarket mesh grilles x2 pieces? You should re-name this to 'Mesh Grille Mod' :P

I like the chrome surround as your headlight background is chrome so it blends well.

You really need to fill the gaps left from removing the inner bars for a proper job though. Looks half finished IMO.

All,

Thanks for the feedback and suggestions. Yes it is only half finished at this point, so I am debating with myself "to badge or not to badge". I will fill the gaps in the lower centre and both sides, just have to get all the fibreglass matt and body filler and look for a clear weekend, socially and weather wise. Followed by another spray session. Also thinking of taking the spray paint to the fog light surrounds to match the grille colour. So this little project continues!

Eddy,

I didn't find this one, I cut the existing one to pieces and the result is the left overs!

I picked up this grille from NXTIME last week.

Any comments welcome.

It is growing on me, I must admit. I got it as a filler while I was modding my current version.
