Rear Whiteline Camber bushes

Hi all,

I just installed some rear camber adjustment bushes this weekend (Whiteline part #KCA399). I wanted to straighten out the rear camber as its been sitting like a crummydore for so long without any adjustment ability.

Anyone else had experience putting these in themselves?

So i went down to my mechanic's as he has all the right gear and as long as i don't bother him i can use all his equipment and a hoist for free.

I had to remove the upper rear control arms (no problem). Had to press out the old bearing/bush with a workshop press (no problem). Had to fit the new bush and camber insert in some grease in the control arm (no problem, used the press again to make it easy).

So, the annoying part :evil: i go to install the arms back in the car, and the bolt that holds on the control arm doesn't fit through the whiteline camber insert!! The threaded part of the bolt (about 1inch) fits, but the rest of the bolt is about 3 tenths of a mm thicker than the threaded part and it didn't fit!!

So, the solution --- grind off about 3 tenths of the diameter of the bolt on a belt grinder!! So now i have 2 very shiny, slightly narrower bolts in my car, and now the whiteline kit fits perfectly. I didn't touch the threaded part, just the solid part.

Surely Whiteline wouldn't make a mistake like this not having the right size hole? Did i do something wrong? Or order the wrong part? Or is there the wrong bolts in my rear?

Just wanted to ask if anyone else has had this experience with installing this part?

Doesn't sound right.

I have the same kit and no grinding was needed of the bolt. So you're basically saying that the bolt doesn't go through the crush tube supplied by Whiteline? You should contact them and see if it's a QA issue. Did you take any measurements whilst it was all apart?

I personally wouldn't settle for having to grind down the diameter of a control arm bolt.

Yes it could be a QA problem at Whiteline, but i'm not sure - Might be worth an email to them.

It seems weird that the first inch of the bolt (the threaded part) fitted in the whiteline "crush tube" as you call it perfectly, but the rest of the bolt got jammed as it was too thick I did measure it with a digital vernier and it was 3 tenths of a mm out. That really isn't that much. I thought about drilling out the whiteline part but it was actually pretty quick and easy to grind back the bolt diameter a bit. A rather crude and not ideal solution i must admit. It would have been much easier if the bolt just fitted as it was supposed to....

i can't remember the installation in detail but the tube is only as long as the non threaded part of the bolt isn't it?

Trutrack had the same problem when they installed mine last year. Luckily for me the had the right size bolts in their parts shelf.

TruTrack definatelly know their stuff! There are many very well set-up race cars around that have been tinkered with by Ralph @ TT. My old man has had his Rex set up by them, and they have trailled many different spring rates and heights to get the best track times. Turns out quite a high front end is much faster as it is more controlled under braking for his particular car! TT discovered this after showing them photos of the car at various corners dippingh too much into corners.

Glad to hear that i'm not the only one with the bolt problem, i'll definatelly let Whiteline know of this as they should supply the bolts as well in the kit as not every workshop will have a fantastic parts bin as TT. I even looked around my mechanics for suitable replacement bolts to use, but his workshop is a chaotic mess and i can barley find tools let along bolts!! :lol:

Yeah Trutrack are the bomb and were my primary choice of workshop until I stopped working on that side of the city. Plus they are pretty expensive too ;)

I'd still go back there if I had a really tricky problem that no one else could fix though.
