Thanks for the tip Cruisn, I agree that the filler alone will crack and fall out over time if there is no rigid backing held in place.

Did you use the resin and MEKP on the fibre glass mat (to harden it) or did you just use the raw mat?

I was thinking about using some clear flexible plastic held in place with silastic. What do you think?

Kind Regards,

Mark.

I wouldnt use plastic sheet and silastic. The fibreglass will do this for you.

Rough up the area to be covered with the fibreglass with some 80 grit paper for better adhesion. I cut a layer of fibreglass to shape to suit the repair area, then apply resin to that area . Lay the fibreglass onto this then with the supplied brush, cover the fibreglass mat with resin ensuring good coverage and working out any airbubbles. Allow 24 hours for proper cure.

Pretty much follow the instructions on the fibregalss kit and you'll be right.

Ok, we do not need to re-invent the lessons learnt of the experts and will heed the advice, so fibre glass kit it is.

I have a pair of darkened reflector surround headlights that would compliment the look of that fantastic grille. PM me if interested.

Youll want a couple of days to get a good finish with fibreglassing gaps, undercoat and paint layers. I rushed my first attempt and it looked shite. Sanded it all back and started again, spent a week all up. Applied a coat every morning and afternoon to get a nice gloss finish. nit difficult though

What brand did you buy. I initially bought cheap shit black and clear(aust export) thinking if I took it easy it would be ok. WRONG. I then paid a bit extra and bought some acrylic spray paint in black that went on much nicer and came up in a semi gloss finish without the need for clear coat :)

It was some $2.95 fiddly bits, had it lying around, seemed reasonable at the time. Bought some white knight squirts enamel based stuff today and some clear coat to go with it. Might swap it for some acrylic if that's the way to go

Make sure you warm up the spray paint cans before use. I either sit them in bucket of hoot water or use a hair dryer.

The paint flows better when warm and you will get a better finish.
