these have been sitting around the garage for a while and i thought i might as well get it under way with a free weekend up my sleeves. I had a set of 2002 B4 BBS rims and i thought i'd bite the bullet and refurbish them.

my two buddies used to remove the build up of gunk and break dust

slightly cleaner

Image

after the scrub up, it was time to sandblast them. Removed all scratches, dents from the rims

After sandblasting them it was time to powdercoat. between sandblasting and powdercoating, u shouldnt leave them out for too long as they will start to rust up pretty quickly. Ideally i'd be best to sandblast and powdercoat on the same day. Steel pearl was the colour of choice.

no more imperfections

while i was waiting for the rims to cure after sandblasting, i though i'd spiff up the center caps. a bit of wet sanding with some 320, 400, 1000 and 2000 grit sandpaper and some plastic polish

now to put the wheels on the lib

overall took a week to do from start to finish. :D

Holy crap man they look great, good job! Did you do all the processes yourself? i.e. sandblast and powder coat as well?

I've always wondered what the 2.5i stock 17x7 would look sandblasted and powder coated black. How much lighter are the BBS compared to stockies?

yer thanx guys, sandblasting i did myself, took about an hour to do all 4 rims. abit tedious but all worth it.; used an air compressing machine with a special nozzle that disperses the sand at about 25 psi.

I was tempted to powdercoat myself but i wanted a perfect finish and I wasn't all that confident with my powdercoating abilities. I had it sent to Multicoat up at rowville and they did a fantastic job. turn around time was only a day it turned out perfect. :D .

I didnt get a chance to weigh the rims although in hindsight I should have just to see how much weight I had saved; but I doubt it would be much.

You'd be surprised mate! Those BBS wheels are forged which are typically lighter than the cast wheels. Even if you only save 1kg per wheel at a minimum you'd be making a great improvement in unsprung weight and have better handling. At the worst if you didn't save much weight you'd have much stronger wheels now :D
