Phat DP...

Postby TorpedoCreative » Sun Jun 07, 2009 10:17 pm

I felt compelled to post my thoughts on the mod... I already had hitech quad tip mufflers and a 3" centre pipe fitted so it was only right that the last peice of the puzzle be fitted, and no better solution was the Phat DP. Fitment was perfect and quality of the DP was awesome .

First observations was that the noise levels hadnt changed that much. Ans I noticed am improvement on low down response straight away - so I was happy with the mod already.

A couple of days later and the exhaust has 'settled' and I can say that the sound is definately louder now, I can still cruise fairly quietly but on the gas you can hear me coming :) The power diference is awesome, it feels like an animal, and the low down response has spread to, what feels like, stronger pulling right through to the top end at gear change (remember I have an Auto).
So both tumbs up to this mod, cant wait to get a tune now as the car already feels ballistic (compared to what it was before) 8)

cheers

James

Sounds great (pardon the pun). Question for you, when you say it's louder... In what way? - if you can explain it that is!

Thanks

So more burble, or more 'noise'?

neither, the sound he speaks off is the screams of the missus as she's pushed back into the seat. :D

from inside the car, its just louder (it already had a subtle burble from the previous setup).
...but from listening outside (before the DP was fitted) I know that it all sounded different than inside the car (the burble was even more noticeable oustide) - I will have to get someone to drive it as I listen from the outside to know for sure now that the DP is on.... :)

Hmmm - still undecided on this mod... I like the idea of the power, but worried about the noise. Thanks for the explanation mate!

Enjoy!

Steve, that's the exact same reason why I hesitated as well when I was presented with the opportunity of getting a dump pipe (or be the guinea pig for the auto version). I got a Liberty because I wanted a quiet luxury ride (that priority went out the window a LONG time ago), and was unsure about the added noise a dump pipe would bring.

Sure the added noise will be noticeable at first because you're used to a quieter cabin. But after a week or two you get used to it and it's not noticeable anymore. And depending on your exhaust setup the noise level will vary.

But trust me, the dump pipe is the number one most noticeable modification you can get next to the sway bars. Straight away you'll notice a huge difference in spool up time and response from the turbo. For under $1,000, it's one of the best performance mods you can go. You'll be asking yourself "Where the holy f&*# have you been all this time, you magnificient dump pipe?!!" And once you the ECU gets used to it or you get the car tuned, like James, the screams of your passengers will be the only noise you'll notice.

Get it! You will not regret it!

James, wait until the tune gets done buddy, you are going to love it!

There is a noticeable difference with the DP but coupled with a proper tune, the car will be alive.

Try to get the tune sooner rather then later :)

Good work James and you will def be a bit louder but well worth it. My mates reckon they can here me coming but the improved performance is soo worth it. Its been over 8 months since I installed the Phat Dump and had a tune and the only regret I have is staying with the stock sti quads for so long with this set up. Your hitech's will love it now.
