AVO bits fitted.

Postby Mo_GT » Thu Feb 26, 2009 6:08 pm

Installed the AVO inlet, MAF and Throttle to TMIC pipes/hoses as well as the TMIC yesterday.

Nothing was a straight fit and nothingwas straight forward. The easiest to fit was the TMIC but the allocations to hold the engine cover weren't threaded properly and i ended up breaking a bolt...

Image

Anyway, i'll write up a walk thru later on how to fit the inlet pipe, AVO's instructions ar simple enough to follow but don't give you specific /detailed explanations on how to fit the pipe.

Some pics:

You should have installed rem separately so I can ask you if each of the pipes make a difference

AVO make quality stuff, but nothing I've ever bought from them has ever quite fit properly. Always close, but never quite right.

I doubt that the MAF or the throttle pipe make much , if any, difference on their own. The inlet pipe will be the most diff with the maf pipe helping a little bit.

Thanks :)

No conclusion yet, drove to work and back today very carefully today. Will have to talk to a friend who tunes these things first to see if i need a re-tune before i can drive it hard.

I was expecting the car to make more noise (induction, bov, etc) but its queit as it was before.

Have you got the same strut brace? Is yours starting to rust?

Looks great Mo! Mmm, that's a lotta red in that engine bay. :D

But aren't AVO's main audience North America? If so I reckon their gear would have been design for that market, and just needs a bit of adjustment to fit the Oz ones.

nice work mo. looks great!
does your engine cover fit on ok?
it's just that i saw another guy had to cut his up where the pipes mees the turbo inlet pipe. mind you, it could have been a different brand though.

How much were the pipes? I already have the TMIC, and the two rear bolts don't bolt up to the engine cover :P

Yeah, but if they are going to sell their products in Japan and here, they should be aware of the differences and adjust accordingly or say that there might be some differences - its just the inconvenience of buying something that is supposed to just bolt on and having to spend more time (and $$ in my case with the broken bolt) that you allowed for...

Every Japanese part i've bought clearly says that they will only fit JDM models and that they take no responsibility for overseas models - that i can live with. But having said that, all the Jap parts i've ever bought fitted up perfectly in all three of my past cars.

Over the pipe its a very snug fit, AVO recomended that i space up the bracket that holds the engine cover at the bottom left. I haven't done it yet and the press clip seems to fit ok there.

I am triming the cover to fit over the TMIC tho - it still fits ok but there's a gap between the cover and the TMIC. I'll post up measurments etc when i write up a walk thru.

Just under $500 for all three. There's and extra 4th hose for the twin scroll - from the turbo to the intercooler.

My cover also doesn't seem to line up to the TMIC allocations - let me get the broken bolt out first then i might just re drill the joles properly.
