It has started I guess. During the run with Roddez a couple of weekends ago I experienced a tiny bit of brake fade on a long downhill. It wasn't scary by any margin but noticeable. Then again, I wasn't hammering the brakes either, leaving it in 4th most of the way down and only dabbing the brakes from time to time

I called Tony at VSports last week for some advice and after describing the symptoms (pedal going a little longer but coming back with a single "pump") he suggested I just needed to replace the fluid. I then asked about a reasonable braking power upgrade. Not needing anything for the track and not being all that interested in bling I settled on a simple front upgrade in addition to fluid flush.

End result: DBA 4k's on the front with Hawk ceramic pads. The brake fluid was pretty shit too apparently. I guess just flushing the brake lines would have done the job but, meh



This is one of the old front rotors. Doesn't look too bad. They'll sit around gathering dust at my place in case I decide to put them back on in the future.



My impression on the new brakes? Well, it is too early to tell. They do pull the car up so they seem to be doing their most basic job alright. I'll let them bed in properly and take it out for a run in the country in the next couple of weeks. Only problem is that I most likely won't have the car this weekend (and if I do, shouldn't be out fanging in it I guess)

Wow! That's great, Tony! Looks great too! I'm sure once you bed them in (it's a tedious process), brake grip will be excellent compared to stock! I'm glad you've come to realise that you do a lot of spirited driving, cruises, and road trips, and you need proper brakes to match. You really rip it at times with that menacing 3 litre of yours, so it's only natural you need equivalent brakes to stop you. Great work!

A handling upgrade of some sort. Would love some adjustable shocks but the cost of coilovers is a bit out of my league for the moment. I'd really love to dial out some of the bump harshness of the bilsteins though. Oh well...Maybe some sway bars and see how I go

Brakes were always on the top of my list of upgrades. I wanted to get a feel for the capabilities of the standard items and just how hard I use the brakes in this car before making my mind up on how far I needed to go. I'll see how these fit in with my driving style and adjust as necessary.

Haha that's true mate. I've been chatting with Tony through email and he remarked, "We have had a huge amount of interest in kits for Liberty’s over the last 6-8 weeks" and i'm thinking, what a coincidence.

best way to bed in brakes is a good good hard run

being soft on them only increases the likleyhood of glazing and doesn't really do anything... really

A bit over $800 for the hardware and installation. around $100-150 for the flush

Yeah, was plenty of gutter rash on the wheels when I bought it. The spare was clean though

Naw, man. If the gutter rash is over 2 inches in length, by NSW law, you are required to replace them with 19 inch wheels.
