Hey guys, I never made a thread for my gen3 so I figure I'll give it a go with the gen4. Just some basic info for now, car is completely stock. On the way home from picking up the car I organised some stops to pick up parts from members, I've driven around 500km in it now and I really like how it performs factory, I don't have a desire to install any of it yet. The suspension ride is great and the engine is so smooth in comparison to my old EJ251 - really am enjoying it.

I've read through quite a few of the build threads and I like the way applegeek has set his out, so I'm going to follow similar structure with mine :D

Now that I'm back from schoolies it's time to give the thing some love. Also for anyone who hasn't done it, Great Ocean road is a must, especially between Apollo bay and Lorne.

As soon as Tim and I picked up the car we noticed the sound system had an issue, a quick look in the boot revealed the factory sub had utterly cacked itself.

Did some searching on the 4rums for a replacement option and it became apparent that polk was a good alternative to the factory option. Only issue was these threads were so old that the recommended subwoofers were discontinued. I ended up getting a Polk DB842, specs all matched up and so did the diameter, the only potential issue is whether or not it's slim enough to clear the torsion bars in the boot.

It somehow arrived the next day from Sydney to Bendigo, and I only paid an extra $14 for express shipping, that's a win. Also headed down to SCA to get some stuff to make the job easier:
Image
Image
Took me about an hour to get everything pulled apart and out (using a helpful guide from Viper & the FSM to help locate the clips), exposing the very dead sub:
Image
New vs Old (big size difference becomes apparent):
Image
Chopped the old connector off and soldered it onto the polk:
Image
Dropped it in, anddddd yep. Too big, hitting the torsion bars as the boot closes:
Image
Made a very sketchy spacer out of this weird reinforced polystyrene as it was really all I had available, running short on time so this is the best I can do for now. It cracked in one spot as I screwed everything down, but hopefully it'll last a little while so I can sort out a proper plastic spacer.

Either way, car is back together now makes some bass - which is nice. Tried keeping it clean while down on the coast but was near impossible, so tomorrow it'll get a nice wash and wax.

After quite a few issues it's safe so say I won't be buying second hand coilovers ever again. Just too hard to get everything set back up to a good spec. Either way, the MCA blues are in after a lot of stuffing around and I like them.

Still need to adjust myself from running on factory suspension the last 4 months but eventually it'll be fine. Doesn't really look all that different from stock but here's a photo anyway:
Image
Also tried test fitting the XXR's while I still had them, to get an idea for the correct size wheels to search for, the front fitment was nice but the rear was a no go, finally ended up selling these on Saturday.
Image
Got the car booked in for a suspension shop to install my anti-lift kit and some rear camber adjustable bushings from Whiteline this week.

Managed to get a pretty good score last week, got a full xforce stainless catback for $400, originally I wanted to stay away from xforce but I decided if I really didn't like this I can always resell without losing money - that should be going on this afternoon or tomorrow.

Next up with be a full service of all fluids & filters!

Had a highly recommended local suspension specialist take a look over the car today and do the alignment. I originally had the booking to install the anti-lift kit & rear camber bushes from whiteline as well as to get an alignment afterwards. The guys said it would only be a waste installing the parts as the car isn't sitting that low, and all the factory stuff was in good condition and allowed for the alignment to get into perfect specs.

Only charged me $80 and said if I have any issues with it within 3 months they will take a look at it for free. Absolutely awesome service and could not be more impressed over the previous shops I've been to. Well mannered, very friendly & welcoming, efficient and knowledgeable. For other members in the Central Victoria region check out M&C in Kangaroo Flat :D

In other news, I attempted to fit the cat-back today as well but the so called bolt-on exhaust didn't exactly bolt on. The factory spring bolts used after the 3rd cat don't fit the xforce and there's no replacement ones that came with it - so I have just installed the mufflers for now until I can sort some bolts. Pretty happy with the tone but the sound could be deeper.

I could imagine the XXR’s doing your head in.
I’m on 18 8.5 +35, and basically want to roll the guards every time the wheels are off lol.

That’s with a few mm poke, horizontal finger gap, and stock alignment on coilovers, front camber tops maxed inward (to correct kingpin axis) and WL rear upper bushes to correct the static added camber.

That extra 1/8 of an inch of poke... needs a fair bit of camber. Extra camber means more toe to even out wear, eventually is going to affect handling for good or bad...

Having said that, 18 8.5 +35 is almost a match for baller spec 18 9.5 +38, which is achievable on rolled pumped guards with some inner rear shaving, but a more track oriented alignment featuring more camber of course.

And 18 8.5 45 bring “master flush” with coilovers and mild guard work.

That’s a fair summary of rim spec outliers...

Any rim spec within those should be a cinch on stock alignment, or have bulk potential to tuck, not that that’s the grand touring way...

Use willtheyfit dot com to work out the rest ;)

Thanks for those specs Benny.

At this stage I'm looking at maximum width of 8.5" as I don't want to have to worry about scrubbing and guard rolling/pulling (Can't afford to be respraying this pearl). Ultimately I wanted Enkei RS05RR because they suit the liberty so well, but I'm looking to spend less than $2000 so I'm on the look out for the Koya replica (the Koya SF05). They come in 18x8 +38 and that seems to be okay fitment without having to worry about any of the mentioned issues with fitting larger wheels.

Pair that with some nice beefy sidewall tyres and they should fill the guards nicely I hope.

On a side note: The stock wheels are growing on me, but they are so extremely heavy.

That’s bang on.
I reckon that’s a sweet spot right around that width and offset.

Plus all the good tyres are very affordable in 235 40 18.

Time for a small update, a couple little things have changed so may as well address them.

Installed the SuperPro pitch-stop mount, super easy, old one out and new one in in less than 10 minutes (although I did manage to crack 2 of the 4 clips holding the engine cover on). As you can see the factory one had a small crack in the rubber bushing, not sure how much of a difference it actually would've had on the rigidity.
Image
Nevertheless the factory one had quite a bit of side to side play in it and the Superpro was very firm once installed, a worthy upgrade I'd say.

Never been a fan of the yellow day-time running lights and a friend gave me some T10 bulbs to chuck in, took the battery out to access the passenger side bulb and revealed a pretty large area of rust under the battery - that's gonna need some attention in the near future. Anyway, got the new bulbs in, looks much nicer imo.
Image

Took advantage of a 30% off store-wide sale at autobarn and got all my fluids & filters for the service. Not sure if everyone has this but at my local store you can punch your car details into a machine and it spits out a piece of paper will ALL the required fluids and serviceable for your car! Pretty cool. Picked up all this (minus the rotors) for $140 + a ryco fuel filter which isn't pictured for $55.
Image
I've been waiting for a nice day under 35 degrees to get the service done, but since there's a ticking noise developing (from my valves I believe - due to using incorrect grade oil I think) I wanna get the oil change done ASAP, preferably before my trip to Melb on Sunday to pick up my.....

Wheels! Work CR Kai 18x7.5 +50, not exactly what I was looking for but they can fit a 235/40 and are lighter than the factory wheels so they fit my needs, would like a little bit more aggressive fitment but at least I can be confident that I'll be able to push the car without destroying my tyres. I'm getting them from fellow member Rohan and the colour isn't exactly my preference so I'll be painting them as soon as I get the time, either gunmetal grey or silver, I'm still undecided. Here's how they look in their current state;

Saw two cars at Tuned wrapped in christmas paper so I figured what the hell not give it a go and have some fun with it, turned out awesome.

Oh, and most importantly, after 6 weeks my club.lib sticker finally arrived!

Update time again!

Completed the full service today and the engine is now back to running happy, no more ticky ticky noises from what I think was the valves.

Had the wheels on for about a week now, gotta say you can feel the difference in heaviness between the factory wheels and these. At first I really didn't like the colour, but it really is growing on me. I think I'll still get 'em powder-coated in the near future. But i'll rock is for the mean time until I get a solid decision on what colour to go to.

Here's some photos, looks very yellow during the day but a darker moody bronze/gold at dusk and night.
Image
Image

Also worth a mention my car is completely legally modified! woohoo! Even after lowering it down today I still have around 135mm of clearance at the lowest point, exhaust isn't anywhere near too loud, wheels fit within the legal specs etc. Really want to maintain this as long as possible, don't wanna repeat of the gen3.

Touch wood but for a car that came with no oil in it it's been great so far! Almost two months (7000km) into ownership now and I couldn't be happier with the thing. Next I wanna get some swaybars and then get a couple cosmetic items such as tbsti lip and a roof spoiler :)

Gold on white. Winning.
Need moar pics but in the twilight they look really good!

Some added rear caster is evident from lowering, you can correct it with whiteline rear upper lateral arm bushes if required...
Kca399... I did, just to save my tyres :)
