Honestly it's hard to tell, I have some tuning issues to sort (it's super rich), so on WOT there is some smoke, but having asked people who have been behind me it is apparently black rather than blue.

A few things in the works, I bought a Kobe intake but need to fab a pipe to connect it to the turbo, that will be a big step to having the tune sorted. I am hoping to fab new intercooler piping too, but I'm unsure how I want to tackle the bpv as I want to keep it plumbed back into the intake.

I am also buying an OPR setup shortly, so even if oiling isn't a huge problem it'll be monitorable and I can rule it out.

Love it, I just spotted that banjo bolts with pressure sensor fittings are a thing.

Could be useful for testing purposes :good:

Hey Benny I didn't realise they were a thing either. You reckon it would be ok to install a mechanical oil pressure gauge off 1 of the banjos on an ez30?? I've been looking for somewhere, other than using a sandwich plate on the filter..

Just gotta check the banjo bolt dimensions as the adapters are mostly for fuel rails.

Yea I haven't found what thread the banjo's are yet. I'm tempted to weld an NPT fitting straight on the end, drill through and off you go! Need minimal amps to try not distort it but should be ok!

Now back to the original subject sorry!

Does an EZ30 have the same two handy* oil gallery plugs as an EJ25?

(a) near the alternator in the "valley" where the stock oil pressure sensor for the "replace engine light" on the dash is triggered; and

(b) at the top/back of the block (driver's side), covered by a hex plug in a *difficult location but otherwise unused?

If so, you have your "standard" options for taking oil temp & pressure in those spots.

Potentially, but you’d need a tee, assuming there’s enough room.
Iirc there’s 2x oil pressure switches: alvs and ecu...

For an EJ25 at least, my understanding is that:-

(a) the oil pressure sensor at the top/front near the alternator is just to light the "replace engine light" on the dash (when oil pressure is below a fairly low threshold - eg on starting or just after bearing failure.) and has no greater function and no interconnectedness to other systems;

(b) a tee (if it will fit) will allow a person to have both the factory "replace engine light" and the aftermarket oil pressure gauge; but

(c) if a tee won't fit it is user's choice about just leaving the stock sensor unplugged, never again seeing the "replace engine light" illuminate and dealing with low oil pressure warnings via the aftermarket gauge - presumably at a higher threshold with a noise and/or flashing response to alert the driver if the gauge is sophisticated enough.

I'm receptive to information that updates/corrects the above.

[Obviously we are not currently discussing the hard-to-reach unused bung at the top/back/driver's side of the block where I installed my temp sensor with much swearing and head-scratching.]

A bit of an update and also a few questions for the brains trust.

I have bitten the bullet and put down a deposit on an engine, details as follows:

Engine :
-257 block
-stroked to 2.7L
-Fully closed deck
-Diesel liners
-83mm billet crank shaft
-Billet Conrods
-102mm forged pistons with anti friction coating on skirts
- Killer B sump and pickup
- 12mm oversized oil pump
-ported and polished heads
-272 intake cam
-270 exhaust cam
- Titanium valve springs and retainers
-14mm headstuds

I am uncertain about what I want to do regarding the heads, the heads obviously have a lot work done, but they are the older style non-AVCS ej20 heads. From what I've read they can work with a few sensor and tuning changes.
Now, my question is, should I keep the engine as is with these heads, or sell them and build some more modest 25 heads with the funds?

Honestly not 100% sure, I believe it is just referring to being sleeved.

I figured I should also do another little update as a couple of things have been in the works.

I ticked over 300,000km
Image

Shortly after that I lost my driver's side washer cover (RIP)
Image
I am going to see if I can get a replacement 3D printed, but we'll see how it goes.

I also got around to changing my indicator bulbs as I knew the old ones were genuinely terrible, the new ones from ledshoponline.com.au were only $8 each, but are tons brighter, the passo indicator is on, just invisible to the naked eye.
Image

I also mentioned about modifying a Kobe intake to fit my car, I finally got my tig and had a crack at it
Image

It isn't the prettiest, but it works and has AN fittings for the breather return and the vacuum line
Image

I gave it a retune this morning and it's not perfect, but it's a shit load better than before (I'll put some more time into the tune at some point)
Image

Old fuel correction for reference
