I really want to use that air pump in the stock location as a crankcase evac, activated by a Hobbs switch :P
I’ll bet it doesn’t pull enough vac tho :(

jamescd wrote:So as part of my tune I deleted the secondary air pump codes, as I have had a delete kit for months just waiting to be installed.

Yesterday I decided to do the delete.
I used this walkthrough
https://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/2007-2009-air-pump-delete-cel-codes-and-ecu-fix-140259.html?fbclid=IwAR1V9WlE4qjokjcCfTY-z2BIz7dWFCY5c6GjTPKzONRNIKoPPrunQILnNZA
"How hard can it be" I thought as I started at 9am...
Just two bolts to remove this giant eyesore
Image
Image

I removed the solenoid from the passenger side, no problem, slightly fiddly, but nothing too bad.
Then the problems began.

To undo the hard line and remove the driver's side solenoid I had to remove the turbo (fun times).
Image
Image

Once that was done I was able to install the deletes.
Image
Image

At this point it was about 4pm, but finally I had all of this junk removed
Image

I then reinstalled everything so I could move the car to shut the garage door for the night. But because I was in a rush I forgot the turbo heatshield, and I missed that I needed the sensor from the top of the driver's side solenoid.

This morning I cut off the sensor
Image

Plugged it in and cable-tied it out of the way (as well as reinstalling the heatshield)
Image

And finally engine back together ready to go, looking nicer without the pump in it.

A few more parts have arrived, yesterday my alloy LCAs arrived.
Image
I wasted no time in pressing out the old bushes and pressing in my new Whiteline bushes
Image
New lower inner front bushes
Image
New ball joints
Image

New tie rods and anti-lift lower rear bushes also, but will be doing the final install of both of those when the arms go on the car. That was also meant to happen yesterday, but on the front bush bolt on the passenger side the nut rounded while trying to get it undone. I'll probably get a new nut and sacrifice a cheap spanner by welding it to the rounded nut. I'll figure it out, it just delayed my install for a little while.

Today another fun part arrived
Image

My JDM abs cover (finally), getting really happy with how the engine bay is looking now, but as always more to do

Nice one, they came with the ball joint seats too!

If you’re going the alloy rear trailing arms, order the jdm hub bolts to suit.
They’re a lot longer than the stock bolts for steel trailing arms.

Apparently high tensile cap head bolts will do the trick from your local bolt shop.
I’ll attempt to measure them indeed.
Part number is in the jdm FSM section iirc.
Actually I re-found it on jp-carparts: jdm alloy rear trailing arm hub bolts p/n 901000258 ...

Alright, it has been a while since an update, that is mostly because I have been stockpiling parts and waiting for things to arrive (looking at you brake rotors).
Image
A quick breakdown of the parts.
- Shockworks coilovers
- Alcon 4 pot front calipers
- Brembo rear calipers
- Hardrace engine and gearbox mounts
- New design Output Motorsport pitchstop mount
- Whiteline bump steer kit
- JDM alloy arms with Whiteline ALK and bushes
- Another clutch master cylinder
- Xtreme sprung ceramic button clutch
- HEL braided brake and clutch line
- Corgiwerx shift bushes
- new clutch fork

Not pictured
- Whiteline rear shift bushes
- Near new clutch slave cylinder

A while ago my new BOV arrived, I swapped from the Kobe as it was fouling the bonnet due to how tall the PW TMIC is.
Image

I scored rear brembos for a bargain
Image
And immediately repainted them Verde Ithaca to match the Alcons
Image

A lot of those parts were necessary because I was having transmission problems. The clutch wouldn't disengage properly.
I thought this was due to the clutch fork (on to that later). As I had to take the trans out to do the fork I figured it was time to upgrade a lot of other transmission things at the same time (clutch, bushes).
I decided to try and tackle the clutch change in my driveway.

First, jack up your car.
Image
Image

Test fit your brakes to make sure your wheels clear.
Image
Tons of clearance
Image
Image

Then strip all of your suspension as this will all be replaced later
Image
Remove exhaust
Image
I am looking into making the cat removable... for more carrots.

Then, I removed my engine mounts
Image
And put the new ones in
Image
This was made a lot easier by having no driveshafts in the way.

After all this it was time to drop the transmission
Image
Image
It went very well, especially considering the transmission jack was a home made adapter for a standard trolley jack.

Only slight concern is that the clutch fork is fine, meaning it wasn't the cause of my problems, however the new clutch, plate, and both cylinders as well as a braided line should mean that every part that could have been the issue will be replaced.
I got an air bleeder to make doing the clutch and brakes a lot easier.

Lastly, pressure plate off, clutch out, and flywheel out ready for machining.
Image

That's currently where I'm up to, flywheel will get machined in the next few days and then I'll begin putting everything back together. Still waiting on a few parts though (still looking at you brake rotors).

Awesome stuff!
The Alcons are great for spoke clearance...
Could even cop some dish at a later stage.
What diameter rotors? Floating?
Your bleeder, it came with a seperate fitting for the clutch master?
I “need” one for my motive bleeder, but I guess I could nab a spare cap and mod that to suit :)

370mm rotors, and yeah, floating rotors.
And the bleeder has a rubber adapter piece, which has worked on every fitting I've tried it on so far.

Alright, update time.
Flywheel in
Image
New clutch
Image
Clutch in and aligned
Image
New bushes, I also put all new Corgiwerx bushes in every other part of the shifter
Image
Box back in!
Image

All the associated stuff back in, tailshaft, exhaust etc.

I then put a new master and slave cylinder in
Image

Next, time for suspension and brakes.
Rotor rings finally arrived
Image
As well as my rear brembo adapters
Image

Suspension and brakes in!
Image

Final photo before taking it off the stands
Image

Time for a drive, got about 15km and then this happened...
Image

Was planning on getting a tow to a mechanic as I was sick of working on it.
Image
Fortunately, old mate RACT was a legend and was able to fix it enough to get home.

Got home, knowing that the clutch clevis was the issue, wasn't until I got it out that I realised how bad it was...
Image

Replaced with a spare, and have an upgraded one coming.
.
Car now drives, I just need to adjust the clutch in a bit.

Yesterday's project was replacing my fuel pump with my new Kobe 340lph unit, along with putting in the new Kobe fuel filter.
Backseat base out, cover off, lines undone, bash your finger into the sharp edge while unclipping them.
Image

Unit out (into a container to catch the fuel).
Image

Split the can from the filter and pump
Image

Old pump out
Image

Getting it ready for the new filter
Image

New filter and pump
Image
Image

Clipped back together
Image

Reinstalled
Image

Great, job done...

Except it wasn't, it was at this point that I realised I hadn't transferred the o-ring spacer across from the old pump.
Image

So, exactly the same steps as above, including bashing your finger in the exact same spot while undoing the lines.
But, another half an hour and it was fixed and back in.

In preparation for some CAMS events coming up I thought it was time I finally sorted out a proper fire extinguisher bracket (rather than just relying on the half kilo one in the glove box).
I grabbed an extinguisher from bunnings for $20, and some steel for $10.
Some quick measuring and cutting and I had a rough design.
Image

I also tested to make sure the chair would clear it
Image

Marked and lined up ready to cut the angles
Image

Angles cut, I just need to go and weld it together, grind the edges to a nice curve, and then paint it and I'll have a nice and functional bracket.

Yeah, it's awesome to drive, I haven't really had a chance to give it a good shakedown yet, but it feels great so far.
