WheelZ wrote:hey mate. What sort of setup did you go with for the trans cooler?

It was a universal Mishimoto Trans cooler, im not sure what part number. We canceled out the stock transmission heat exchanger cylinder. Sometimes they get clogged and also the trans cooler has better cooling. Even after i absolutely thrash the car for long periods , im hovering around the 85-90 degree mark. Previously i was reaching 115-120 degrees Mid autumn. Initially we did a circuit setup, so stock heat exchanger to trans cooler, but it was about 10 degrees warmer. so we canceled the stock system out.

UPDATE:

Few days ago i started hearing a slight knocking sound from the engine on the highway under load. FLKC on the BTSSM app showed -1.4 on high load and high revs. Arrived at my destination and when i went back to start the car , the knock was very loud and continuous at idle and when i revved it as well. So to avoid further issues, i called a tow truck and took it straight to the mechanics. (All drive subaru in sydney) They will check it later this week or the next. Could be piston, or could be timing belt related, who knows. I have seen issues from Subarus, where a timing belt tensioner pulley bolt snapped, causing a knocking sound.

The belt and all pulleys were changed about 4000kms ago by another mechanic which i won't mention their name (have had previous issue with them, one case in particular.)
Will be interesting to see what it is. If it requires an engine rebuild i am prepared for that and i already knew the pistons are the weak spot when increasing power. Would be an excuse for a rebuild, ( if the block is still ok)

It came out of nowhere, i monitor the car very carefully, radiator temps are perfect, Even FLKC was always good. No leaks, no issues what so ever. AFR is great according to my current tuner and another tuner.

Will update when i have more info.

Oh NO! Doesn't sound good! Hopefully the timing belt has jumped teeth...

If its engine internals , its quite expected, There are so many factors involved in modding an tuning a used car. The biggest question mark before anything is how was the health of the car from the previous owner (who had an Mrt tune since the car was new.) So its always a risk that i was prepared for. In anycase, time and time again you hear about the Gen V pistons not being up to the task for even a little more power then factory.

I meant so say " Hasn't" jumped teeth Hahaha

The pistons are a weak point however with a good tuner and constant Logging for knock they can be pushed a fair bit. It all comes down to how the torque delivery is set, if you have a very steep torque(Boost) curve there will be greater cylinder pressure then say if you have a very linear torque curve that progresses with rpm. Torque is a function of pressure in the cylinder power is a function of air flow.

EJ255 pistons can still handle a fair bit but anything higher that say 1.5x the factory boost level is when issues will arise.

Strange thst this happened given you're running e85.

Not a crazy power level either (considering e85). Thats some bad luck if you do have a blown engine.

Log IAM, FLKC, FBKC, RPM, Engine Load, Ignition total timing and AFR wouldn't hurt too.

Or alternatively use Learning view :)

UPDATE:
Mechanic says for sure its a bottom end internal engine knock, (they've heard enough to know) engine has to come out to diagnose, but most likely looking at a rebuild. Just finalising exact build package before they remove engine and see whats damaged and why.

Damn that sucks if it is the case... if I was you id get a second opinion just to be sure. Pulling engines out for nothing would be annoying...

Pull the sump off and look for metal.

If needing to rebuild the engine, are you going with any upgrades ? Closed deck etc?

I'm not familiar with GenV's, is it possible to remove the sump wile engine is in the car?

Closed deck would be awesome! but i doubt the Auto could handle that power potential Haha

Perhaps go a manley billet crank as it has different oiling to the subaru cranks....may be more suited to your driving style
CURRENT - ATP GTX 3576 - 22psi - 283.7awkw
OLD - Dom 1.5Xtr - Last dyno 254ahkw, previous 238ahkw, first 224awkw.
