Turbo Charging!!!!!!

I thought some might be interested in this

Hi,

Turboing the H6 is certainly possible but due to the design of the engine it does require a complete engine rebuild. This is due to the high compression ratio of 10.7:1 and the piston and rod strength. These are not suited to forced induction. A full engine rebuild with new forged rods and pistons, head studs and new genuine bearings, gaskets and timing chains will run to around $8500. This is actually quite good value when compared to a 4 cylinder engine build.

I would suggest a GT3582R turbo with .82 V band exhaust housing for this engine. Full boost of 15psi would be achieved as low as 3500rpm with good tuning.

A generic intercooler and custom piping would be ample. A custom 3” exhaust would also be fine.

ECU wise I would lean towards a reprogrammed std ecu providing the ecu is capable of controlling the engine adequately. My research says it is possible but I would have to talk to a tuner that specialises in flash tuning the std ecu’s to confirm. This would be by far the cheapest way to go as a capable aftermarket ecu will run into the $3-4K mark plus fit and tune.

Expect to spend around $25k to get an easy 300kw atw from an EZ30 at reasonably low boost pressure. Again, this compares favourably to achieving the same power from a 4cylinder engine.

If you have a 6 speed gearbox you should have no need to upgrade anything other than the clutch. If you have a 5 speed auto it is unknown how much power they can handle.

Cheers. Al.

LOL the old H6 turbo chestnut. Plenty have discussed, a few have tried and even fewer ever achieved success, but the cost well...ask the guys who built the Perrin H6
