Hey guys,
I would like to go through my experience about changing over the throttle body hose on my MY08 GT-B Liberty. I had a loud whistle coming from the engine under boost and as I found out (thanks jacks-GTB) it was leaking like a sieve. So I jumped onto Ebay and found one for $80 delivered (Kobe Motorsport). I am not a mechanic but have enough smarts to know what needs to be done. After loads of research and YouTube videos I gave it a crack. So here is my take on how to install it. Please feel free to add info if I have missed anything.
Tools you will need.
1 x Flat Head screwdriver, the longer the better.
1 x Phillips head screwdriver
1 x Ratchet
1 x Extension Bar
1 x 10mm Socket
1 x 12mm socket
2 x Hose clamps (only if old ones are worn)
1 x Silicone Throttle body hose
and leave yourself plenty of time. This took me 2 hours with a slight hiccup.
The circles are the 2 clips at the front need to be taken out using a flat head screwdriver or panel tool. The 2 rear use a phillips head screwdriver.
Shown with the cover off. All the bolts needs to be taken off using the right size sockets.
This is the passenger side showing the Bypass valve and bracket that holds the TMIC inplace.
This is the drivers side showing the 2 bolts that connect the TMIC to the turbo.
This is the top hose clamp.
This is a better look at the hose and bottom clamp.
One thing that I had to do with the hose was to shorten it by 5mm on either end as it was a little to long when I put the TMIC back in. I did this several times to get the right sizing. I used the existing clamps as they were in good condition. I installed the hose and tightened down the clamps to the throttle body and TMIC. I found this easier so the hose didn't move when installing it. I then put all the bolts back in starting with the 2 bolts connecting the TMIC to the turbo. (I managed to cross thread one of them which was fixed by an urgent call to JAZMAC in Mt Barker SA to re tap the thread. Shout out to Shane for this on short notice).
Since installing it the boost leak has gone and now drives so much better. I did drive a 1500km round trip (Adelaide to Melbourne) and went back to tighten up the bolts to make sure nothing had come loose. please feel free to leave a comment if this helps any of you or any feedback that I can update.
