Hi peeps,

Thought now's about the time I started a build thread.
Here's my MY06 TBSTI Wagon...well this is what it looked like the day I bought it. Completely stock apart from a HKS panel filter.

Had a tune last year at PITS on the Gold Coast, but had a big fail due to an oil pressure issue. Thank you to Matt Spry for not killing it on the Dyno for me.
After a lot of stuffing around with my mechanic and chatting to dr20t and others on here, it only turned out to be the AVCS solenoids. All sorted now, was an easy fix. Ready for the dyno again. Will post results when that happens.

Great build!
Has dr20t or anyone said anything about your gearbox being able to handle the power?
They all scared me out of pushing mine any further haha

What a list mate, very nice work :D

He has done the Hexmods valve body and centre diff bushings upgrade, which does make it fairly strong AFAIK

If only it was that simple. That's why Mick and alexei both dropped the price if an engine build on their gear boxes.

I thought that the pre face lift gearbox might have been stronger or something?

I keep telling Cody that autos are crap, but he doesn't listen!

PreFL was weaker (supposedly), but most of the internal parts are the same (interchangeable). The biggest difference to postFL would be the TCU (how well the box is controlled) and the design of the solenoids that do the controlling.

The 5eat box is pretty tough, it's the centre diff that keeps breaking for everyone who makes some good torque/launches too much.

Valve body mod is fantastic to firm up the shifts and to keep the clutches together, once you're making too much torque

Brass bushings are meant to help improve the design of the centre diff to handle launches better, but it's not a 100% bulletproof design. Still need to worry about things flexing and the loading on gears getting out of nominal position, on stall up before a launch.

IMO as long as you don't launch the car and keep it on 98, the stock box (and more importantly c diff) will last a lot longer, even at 250-300kwatw. But then again, it's not ideal, and that's why so many libs have busted bits and pieces and that's why HexMods get so much business on their upgrade parts :)

The most expensive part of the gearbox build were the upgraded hi-torque clutches (nearly half the cost of the total build). My stock clutches handled everything fine after a VB mod, but it's a longevity and reliability mod too and it does hold the power a little better :D
Running no. of weeks without breaking something in the lib: 0
No. of things still to fix in in the lib: 97

Cheers mate.
I'm not too scared yet, I think once I get to Alexei's power level though I may start getting serious with clutch packs and cryo etc
