Hi all,

It's been exactly 2 weeks since I've taken delivery of a members GTB wagon. I was previously driving an MX5 daily for about 3.5 years. I turned it into a semi-track oriented street car, which was a compromise for daily but extremely fun at any situation, slow or fast. Alas, the need for a bigger car arises when you're planning to start a family. The MX5 will be put on club reg and enjoyed at the track and on weekends.

As it (mostly) currently stands. Front has been raised a further 10mm. Preload reset correctly (which I need to do for the rear as well). Rook racks removed, just getting a feel for it's cleanliness. Did a minor service... Details soon.

Good to see you creating a thread for this car! Some really nice mods and still very clean. It was a shame for me to see the car sell as whole as I wantes the parts! :'( but no really its great that it didnt need to be stripped down as it is an awesome combo of mods!

Have you got any plans for it?? Or just feeling it out for now?

Enjoy it! And welcome to the forum! Say goodbye to your savings ;)

Received a 6 pack of.... filters?

Image

Ginuwine Subaru Oil filters, usually use Ryco for the track hack but since this is a little special, I thought I'd go the extra mile.

Careful now...

No probs... sort of.

Lube it up, and reverse installation.

Replacing the intake hoses with BREEZE hose clamps. 3/4 large ones up to the TMIC inlet were the supposedly crappy TRIDON clamps.

Image

Air filter! HKS on left, Ryco on right. Note the Ryco has a filter seal, while the HKS has no seal. Unsure of effectiveness of HKS, but the following picture will show the particles allowed to pass through.

Hmm not ideal one would think? I'm not sure...

Next weekend I will be doing a full brake flush and transaxle fluid replacement. Also install that pesky catch can I didn't fully understand until I put the car back together.

Hey Jacko, thanks for the encouragement! I understand a lot of people were interested in the parts on the car, although me not knowing a lot about Subaru's, luckily decided to take the whole lot! Future plans... mostly reliability mods. However as you say... the savings are going going gone!

Ha-ha yep typical ghetto jigs to get the job done...
Too many different cars to work on to bother getting the special service tool I suppose. Or I'm just super lazy.

Sometimes on 1st or 2nd gear WOT there is quite a lot of black smoke puffing out after hitting boost. This usually happens when after mid corner planting it.

Oil shifting too much in the pan? Is this a bad case of oil vaper, blow by? Still wrapping my head around turbo cars, it's not too bad, just a few things I'm not 100% sure about when they happen. Otherwise so far, the driveline is pretty solid! Loving it!

Thanks mate.

JUST adjusted the COBB STS about 5mm higher (technically shorter), in an effort to decrease shifting resistance. I'm not sure if it's an attribute to the 6mt but it occasionally has some resistance/blocking when entering some of the gears. Experienced a complete miss when shifting hard into 3rd after a corner exit the other day. Sometimes rev matching into 2nd, it has some resistance. I think it's a characteristic of having the STS in there that's a bit too short. Haven't tried it after adjusting, however it obviously is a requiring a bit less resistance.

I think some sort of stiffer/solid rubber mount for the gearbox or engine will fix it, however when not driven in anger it's all good. Maybe after all this + the new transmission fluid it'll be all good. :o

So couple weeks back I did get around to doing GB fluids.

Was expecting to see a filler bolt as well, but a nice hole is just as good.

Also the other day I went for a nice solid fang around the twisties. I arrived back at Healsville, was stopped in traffic and suddenly noticed the water temp rising. I quickly parked, let it cool off while I grabbed some lunch. Checked back and came prepared with some distilled water. No major signs of leakage, however a bit of coolant on the under tray.

Tonight I found this

Image

Lower radiator hose was probably about half way off the tube, same can be said for the clamp. I'm assuming under pressure it was pushing coolant out of that hose. When parked for the night I wouldn't be able to notice leaks on the ground. Fuck.

Engine seems fine, only overheated in traffic, just above the 2nd white line on our temp gauge. Sad that I don't yet have the means to find out exactly what's happening under that hood. Even though I'm not planning to tune the car, I feel like I should get some ODB reader like Tactrix or whatever just in case.
