Update with pictures

Here's how the screen looks mocked in the car. Looks astounding to my eye. Size is really good for me. I'll let you be the judge.

Could you do some pics in the daylight. Would be interesting to see how it fits into the surroundings?

It's actually a mock up, it isn't installed properly, it's just being supported by rubber bands right now haha. I'm just testing out all the software and ironing out any bugs that are coming up. I also need to ensure that the air vents don't blow any air towards the tablet as recently I've had the tablet put out an overheating warning as well.

For the surround, I have two options, 1, I can go buy a used fascia from the wreckers, or two, with the help of my old man, I can mill out a fascia out of a plastic block using CNC. I think I'll probably end up modifying a used one for the sake of price.

Bit of an overdue update,

Now that exams are over, my dad and I have been able to do some work on the tablet install. We did some machining to widen the gap so that the whole screen could fit. Now we're at the stage where we need to modify the air vent so that it can fit the tablet as well the cabling. At this stage, it looks like the airvents may need to be fixed but I'm really not fussed!

A close up shot of what was being done.

Image

The tablet obviously wouldn't clear the air venting, so we cut one side so that it will slide in, this is also the perfect place to mount it as the that plastic is also held on by screws.
Image

And here it is as it is today. It's not mounted properly so it's a little misaligned! But that's not the main concern now, I have to deal with the airvents and cabling first.

The tablet install is going smoothly, just doing some wiring now. I need to find a good 5v charger, because the Samsung is quite picky and doesn't seem to like the one I have in the 12v port right now.

Was driving to my friends today though and this happened.

Image

Was no fault but my own, I didn't put the hose clamp far enough and after going up the bump on the drive way the hose let go and sent 5l worth of coolant that I put the other day onto his drive way haha! It's running on tap water now so I hope to go get more coolant at some stage this week. Lesson learnt though, part of learning I guess!

Got some Juicy Raptor headers and 2 200cel Magnaflow cats installed in place of the stock equipment. The sound is a little raspy, but I can live with it given the mid range that I feel I've gained!

Also, the Dw65c is installed! I'm ready for e85!! I'm so excited!

Must be the cats that break down the rasp a bit. I kept the stock cats in mind and it just sounds meaty. With a hint of Italian supercar after 4500rpm. I have Ultrex mufflers on though. They are a fair bit louder than stock

Hi there!
Any chance we could get some better pics of the fascia modifications you had to make and also the cuts in the air vent as well. I'm looking at doing the same but don't want to hack up my fascia to find out that it won't fit properly or won't work.

Cheers!

Yeah definitely, if I went 100cell, I'd definitely have a bit of tin can going on haha! Yeah mine sounds great across the rev range in the car, but outside, I can hear the rasp echoing off walls and houses at 3500! Not a big deal though!

Hey mate, so if you get the 7" version of the Galaxy tab 4, I believe it'll fit just snug inbetween the two air vents. If you want to get the 8" like I did, I cut a little bit off the bottom, and the airvents got sliced so the tab can stick under it. The trouble is, I made a mistake when I cut behind the plastic that separates the cubby to the air vents. Those plastic movable vents are held on by a circular slot. I cut too deep and so I cut open that slot and now one side of those flaps have no support and are actually falling off when the fan is on full. Second issue I have is heat, when it's on max, because the tablet is in the way of the airvents, it does get hot and it does slow down to prevent it from overheating. I'll solve this with some insulation, not a big deal, but was an after thought!

Awesome advice! Thanks :)
I've got a nexus 7 I was planning on using but I'll have a look into the galaxy tabs and see whether that's going to be a better option.

Yeah I was a little worried about the heat thing too but as you said, insulation should take care of that pretty well!
