Don't know how it is over on your side of the ditch but NZ is still pretty relaxed with stuff like this. VTNZ testing places barely ever even pick people up for no cats, let alone something that only operates for the first minute or so. And if you do get caught for no cats you just fail the check and have 30 days to remedy the issue.
How do people with big power builds over there like Jacks-GTB get around stuff like that without copping huge fines?

Afaik none of these hi po builds are ever driven :P

Plus GT-b's are so stealth.

Planning to leave mine in place and hook it up as a boost activated crank case vacuum pump ;)

In reality, unless going for a front mount, keeping the Airpump isn't all that much of a big deal. All up it was only 5kg worth of stuff removed.

So the tune didn't quite go to plan. Clutch started slipping as soon as the tuner started doing some power runs so it was called off until I got a new clutch. Being the fool that I am, i decided doing a 6mt clutch swap in the driveway was a good idea despite others saying it was a recipe for disaster.

Jump forward a week and she's all done!

A second set of hands would have been usefull at times but overall it wasn't as much of a struggle as i'd expected.
Not sure if it would have worked out with a normal trolley jack, got talking to one of the guys at work who had a platform jack for motorbikes so gave that a go. Ended up being a damn good choice as it gave a big enough area to get the transmission set up at the right angle to pull straight off the engine.
As expected it was stuck on the dowel pins and no amount of shaking it would get it free, ended up getting a fine chisel and smacking the hell out of it to get a gap started then got the big pry bar in there to get it the rest of the way off.

Image

Went with an Exedy HD 240mm clutch and had the existing single mass flywheel resurfaced.

Image

Took alot longer than I would have liked but happy to have given it a go and come out on top.
Engagement with the new clutch is a heap sharper so it'll take a bit of time getting used to as the old one was super lazy in its old age.

On a side note, fairly sure the alternator bearings are shot so may pull that apart and replace those too.

Booked her in for a tune again on the 5th of August.

Heaps of room, mate, twice as much as I normally have when working on it
Just followed my nose for most of it. FSM was a lifesaver when putting it back together, having all required bolt torques and all that

After a fair bit of a wait due to last times balls up, she's now got a decent tune.

Picked up a huge amount of low load low rev torque that isn't shown in the dyno plot, makes it worth driving again after being a bit of a slug for the last few months.
Pretty damn happy with the result considering how little boost its still running. The tuner couldn't get any more boost out of it so figure its at the the limit for what the stock turbo can put out.

Also picked up a new EJ257 shortblock that'll eventually make its way into the engine bay.
Thinking the VF22/36 hybrid I picked up a while back may be a tad small for the 257 so considering just going full retard and chucking a TS HRC in it with some forged pistons and seeing what it can do.

Holset HRC 35-2 they get some damn good response for their size. Just a bit of a mission getting them to fit.

It's been a long time coming, but finally got the Nexus 7 install done.

Image

Rooting the Nexus was a bit of a pain at first but came across an awesome windows program that pretty much does it all for you.
http://www.wugfresh.com/nrt/

Also made up this USB switch which switches the output from the OBDII port/Openport Between the hub for the Nexus and a USB port in the centre console to use with the laptop. Not sure if it was actually needed but liked the idea of having a physical way of forcing the connection to one or the other.

Haven't yet worked out the audio to the HU yet. The USB connection doesn't seem to work so may end up just getting a DAC and run that into the rear AUX of the HU. Probably not the best method for quality, but its the only method I can see working as I want the bluetooth connection to the HU kept with the phone for calling.

So having a few issues with the Nexus setup. Charging seems rather slow. Seems to randomly jump between about 300mA and 850mA and can't work out why. Would have thought if it was limited by the cable size it would just stay consistantly low. And the other issue is whenever the car is turned on after being off for a day or so the tablet starts up out of FI mode and needs to be rebooted to get back into FI mode.
Anyone had something similar or know what the issue could be?
Thinking about getting some other larger diameter cables and making up a new wiring setup but would prefer not to if its not gonna make any difference.

Take a peek here: viewtopic.php?f=56&t=27506&p=433000#p432715
That usb power supply is good to have, as is a custom heavy gauge otg cable (Google), and maybe one of those charge/discharge powerbanks to use as a power buffer perhaps.
Also look into a 12v battery saver, or failing that go to boot on power and use a timer relay or a capacitor based USB ups or a dash cam power supply etc to keep the nexus powered up for a number of minutes after key off for eg syncing files at home etc...
I guess it's all about finding a scheme that works for you and then optimising it.
The issue has been discussed at length in the big nexus install thread iirc...

The not connecting issue seems to have sorted itself out strangely. Been averaging 700-800mA for the last week. Only problem is I don't drive it often, or for long enough for it to ever fully charge so may get a power bank like Benny suggested, only problem with that would be that the power bank never gets long enough to charge either...

Also picked up some Beatrush bling for some theoretical stiffness off a NZ guy who's moved up to a 5th gen.
