I'm looking at purchasing some coil overs this weekend. They are not the best coils going around at all, but i figure I'll see how they go and sell them and get better ones if I want too later on.

So I'm tossing up between two, the first option is a set of BC V1's for $500 and the second option is a set of Tein Type Flex's for $600. Both have been used a fair bit.

I'm leaning towards the teins because of reading good things about them on the forum and I couldn't find too much about the v1's, although from what I did find, they seem to be okay aswell!

***UPDATE***

Part 1 - EJ257 Short Block

After a fair amount of research I ended up going for a new ej257 short block and some extras in an attempt to stop issues in the future. (Which didnt work ) The car was at the ichiban for about 2 weeks and I got it back on the 1st of August :) Drove it for 1 week and on the 7th I was driving along and a rattle started to come from the engine. I had no idea what was going on so I pulled over to check it out and it sounded horrible, so I drove it home and put it up on stands to have a better look. Turned out the sound was coming from the sump. Anyway the car will be ariving in sydney tomorrow and I'm praying that the issue is related to the work they have just done or else I wont be able to afford to pay to get the car fixed for a while. So yeah not the greatest time but hopefully things will go up from here :)

I should also mention that throughout this whole process Ben and the rest of the guys at Ichiban have been really great about everything, very professional and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them.

Video of the horrid sound -

Here's the work I had done -

Part 2 - Plastidipping Wheels

Okay so I also decided to plastidip my wheels, some people will probably hate the idea of this but the way I look at it, I can remove the dip whenever I like so it's no big deal! I was just sick of the silver and I actually love the way it looks now. I paid about $24 for each can from SCA and it took a few hours to do as I have done about 6 or 7 coats and took the wheels off to do it. I think it came out pretty well :) I do actually really like the wheels silver too so im considering removing it. I haven't decided yet so let me know what you guys think. Either way I will eventually be getting new wheels but that will have to wait until I can save some money.

I used playing cards to stop overspray and masked off a couple of bits and also took the center caps off.

Part 3 - Tein Coil Overs

I also got some 2nd hand coilovers when I picked up the car from forum member Paul :) Installed them with a mate and it was actually allot easier than I was expecting so that was good! The ride is allot stiffer (obviously) but IMO it isn't too bad and I also havent played around with the dampness yet so I'll have to do that when I get around to it! I really like the height now also!

In that video the alt belt looks like it's slipping around.

Possible pulley issue or rattle from a shield?

Can you get it looked at locally before getting it all the way back to Sydney ?

Yeah it's vf46, must just be a stuff up by the guy writing up the sheet... I might just mention it next time I chat to them though :)

Yeah I could have but i could tell once I had the car home that the issue was serious, more than just a loose alt belt unfortunately :'( It's already been picked up and get's dropped in sydney tomorrow now anyway :)

Yeah the vid was mine :)

Got the car back today!! Turns out it was a metal plate that had been bent and was hitting the flex plate so they fixed it up for me really quickly.

I also had a reasonably quiet whining sound coming from the power steering and they fixed that for me too! Plus they chucked in a free oil filter and 5 liters of penrite to apologize and thank me. Just goes to show why they have such a great reputation! As i have said before, i wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to anybody looking for a good subaru mechanic in sydney.

Always great to hear of good service like this

The ichiban boys are a great resource for the Subaru community.

Glad to hear it was a minor thing.
