Been a while since the last update.

The mapper cancelled my March session, now booked for 19th June. Had almost given up hope of ever getting the mapping finished. In the meantime got the new half bumper and spats fitted up, new tail lights have just arrived from Japan.

I have one more package enroute from Japan, at which point I think I will have finished with the outside of the car apart from a re-paint at some point.

Not so much a run in tune, just as far as they could map with an inadequate fuel pump.

So the car threw a CEL the other week, one of the O2 sensors had passed away  treated the car to 2 new Denso sensors for a reasonable £70GBP each.

Wish I had done this sooner as the car drives like new, very smooth and responsive to the throttle, got a bit carried away one morning and did WOT in 2nd and 3rd gear to the 5000rpm rev limit. According to the boost gauge we made 11.6psi at 5000rpm!!!!!!! The car was totally epic 8) . Can't wait for the mapping session on the 19th June when we can go full bore to red line of 7,500rpm.

Have a collection of parts to fit to the car now, group N gearbox mount, COBB quick shift and bushes and some time in June Japanparts should get round to sending the K2 gear roof spoiler I have ordered.

Have started thinking about going DCCD, Subaru over here have a brand new box for £2400GBP or I can get a second hand set up including Ri80 diff and drive shafts for about the same money, just need to get a few more ££££ in before bankrupting myself again.

Mapping will be done on the road.

So what was to be the final mapping session, was a bit of a mixed bag If I'm honest. :(

Since installing the first SC kit, however long ago that was, the car has always had an unstable idle and prone to stalling just wheen you don't want it to.

Installing the all the new inlet and dump valve piping took 5 minutes and then Bob started cheking through the engine etc. After about an hour he was still struggling to get the car to a steady idle. After some testing and double checking it became clear that the map sensor wasn't working  . The map sesnsor was installed, new, with the Raptor kit. Based on my experience with the car I'm not sure it ever worked. Fortunately Bob has a collection of bits and we were able to swap it out for a woking item, so after 2 hours we had some progress.

So after another hour of me just standing in the garage wathcing Bob, he was still struggling to get the car running how he wanted it. So off came the new inlet for a closer inspection and testing of the new Forge recirc valve. Although it was fitted with a red spring it was opening under the slightest breeze :angry2: . Again Bob to the rescue with some spacers to help increase the pressure on the dump valve and finally we got it to hold 0.8 bar at tickover.

The next problem then showed itself, even though everything was exactly where Bob wanted it he was still struggling to get the engine steady. For whatever reason the setup we had with the SC just wasn't working. So i removed the new inlet system and dump valve and installed the old system, which gave a much steadier tickover with the new map.

So in total I spent 4 hours standing in Bobs garage feeling we had got no where. But in reality we have made some important break throughs which now just require a little bit more fabrication. Hallie, fire up the welder.

What we learnt is that when you supercharge a Subaru in the way I have, DO NOT USE A RECIRC VALVE. There is something strange happening in the inlet tract that keeps oscillating air when you least need it.

So for now the the car is exactly the same as when it left this morning, although with a very slight change to the original map.

This is my second visit to Bob and in fairness to him, he has not charged me for any of his time or the parts added to my car. My car is a one off so there are bound to be unknown issues to overcome. Roll on mapping session number 3 after which I can sit back and relax........... However I did notice that Rotrex now make a SC capable of delivering 900bhp which just happens to bolt straight into the bracket I have which would work well with the engine I have in the machine shop. Maybe next year....

The next session is booked for Friday 13th July..........

Damn man sorry to hear you're having those problems but such is the way with a project car I suppose. You'll get it all sorted and it'll be worth it in the end. Good luck!

Did you pressure test the inlet with smoke or bubbles?
A leak will show if the car is revved, stationary.
