So after having watched the Go fast Brett video on fuel pressure regulators, I recognised one or two things he was describing. So going to change out the stock item, also going to do a mod to the fuel rails so that we can use a 3 port regulator. More to follow.

Got home tonight to find an early delivery from Santa.

The rad has been designed to be a straight swap using all the Subaru fans etc. Will get it installed over the weekend.

In the process of having some fuel rails altered so that I can run a 3 port fuel pressure regulator. Fit those and the new inlet tract and then off for the tune.

So another little gift on my doorstep when I got home today.

So the thinking behind this is to get better control of the fueling which your unable to do with the OEM setup. Also the OEM setup has a bit of a weird fuel return system. So with the modified rails the fuel enters via the some pipe on each of the fuel rail. The modification carried out by a good friend who has years of Legacy experience, which, was to remove the 2 damper pots screwed onto the fuel rail and replace them with 2 pipes towards the middle of the rail. All the silver soldering carried out by AS Performance.

We can now use a 3 port FPR and use these new lines to return the fuel to the tank. Better fuel control should help when it comes to mapping.

So I have decided to use a different mapper for the final session now booked for the last week in October, with Bob Rawle. This will be live road mapping. The reason for this is that the previous mapper seemed very uninterested in mapping anything other than WOT and as I don't drive my car flat out everywhere, there are some round town driving parameters that defo need a tweek.

The end is in sight (maybe)

So with only a week to go before the mapping it was time to get the 3 port FPR and modded fuel rails installed.

This proved to be a time consuming and fiddly job mainly due to the poorer access to the crash protection covers over the fuel rails caused by the installation of the charge cooler pipes on one side and the installation of an SC on the other.

I used up 3m of new fuel pipe and 2m of heat shielding on the runs. When running new pipes you can't be to careful ensuring there is adequate protection to the fuel lines against chaffing and the effects of heat soak. Took about 5 hours to get it where I wanted it. Huge thank you to my friend Martin for all his assistance in getting the modded fuels rails done and in the installation.

Also in anticipation of the mapping we changed out the oil and oil filter and fitted new spark plugs which had covered 20k miles with the superchargers.

Plugs 1, 3, 5

Plugs 2, 4, 6

Looking forward to getting the car sorted so I can finally use the whole rev range and see if we can get the motor to produce 500bhp/370kw, fingers crossed

Where are your dampers.....just reminding you that some cars really do better with them.
Perhaps some in line ones.....like these:

Perhaps one of these just before the fuel rail......

Never heard of these, sound like a good idea, will have to until after mapping. Thanks for the heads up.

Time passes!!!!

So I went for mapping, the mapper said it was not possible to map the car in its current condition due to varies items, which all made sense as he talked me through them. Which meant another delay in getting all the parts together and then finding the time to fit them.

So the biggest change is getting the MAF mounted before the SC and maintaining 80 mm of straight pipe before and after the MAF. :D

So we started with a collection of parts.

It took an entire day of fabrication to end with the following installation and also using a much larger air filter caused quite a few packaging issues. :(

As this is a massive change from the current setup I am going to have drive to the mapper and then install all this which will mean taking the front bumper off as well.

In other news I have changed the front pads to DS2500 as the others were nearing the end.

Image

And finally the slow boat from Japan arrived bringing what I believe to be the first one in the UK of the Spec B (3.0 )half front bumper kit. I have acquired another front bumper with less damage than my current one, so I intend to get the bumper resprayed and then fit the new bumper and the half bumper together.

Had a trial fit of the new chin spoiler onto my spare bumper, very happy. Will get the bumper painted now to match.

The final mapping session is booked for March. :D
