Postby soundengine » Fri May 08, 2015 8:55 pm

Year: 2007
Odometer: 11xx,xxx kms
Version: BP
Colour: Newport Blue
Interior: Beige Leather
Engine: 3.0L H6

M o d i f i c a t i o n s:

Paint restoration with Modesta P01A and BC05
Fitted DBA T2 Rotors front and rear
Fitted QFM HPX Pads
Fitted Goodyear Eagle F1 D5
Fitted Bilstein B6 Sport Sport Shocks
Fitted STI Pink Springs
KiDO Tune

P e n d i n g:

Respray of rear tail-gate spoiler due to clear coat failure
DAMD steering wheel
Repair 'gutter rash' on all 4 rims (in-progress)
Headlight bulb upgrade (in-progress)

H i s t o r y L o g / I s s u e s :

Fitted Goodyear 'Assurance' tyres, only lasted approx 18,000km before they needed to be replaced. Lots of road noise. Replaced with Eagle F1.
Approx. 80,000km clear coat on rear tale-gate spoiler failed.
Approx. 100,000km the OEM rotors were completely shot, still on original brake pads!
Approx 110,000km the car felt like a boat going around long corners, the shocks needed replacing. Switched to Bilstein B6 Sport Shocks.
- Post fitting new shocks ride height of the front was higher than the rear. After a few hours searching forums its a known issue with OEM springs and Bilsteins.

Booked in for 112,500 service with Subaru dealer. I was in the process of ordering some STI Pink Springs from 'nengun' and asked the dealer if they could supply and fit STI Pink Springs to suit the Liberty 3.0RB Wagon, they spoke with the Sydney/STI consultant and are able to supply $50 cheaper. However they did seem a little concerned that because mine was a 3.0R and didn't come standard with Bilstein shocks and that I have fitted them 'aftermarket' the springs would not suit them.

From what I found on the interweb and the forums, the Bilstein B6's are a direct replacement for factory 3.0RB shocks, so assuming they order the right springs it should all be good. Fingers crossed it all works out!

Spent the day repairing the rims.

Washed and cleaned a extra spare rim (don't know how I landed up with 6 OEM rims), then used a 120grit sandpaper to smooth out the 'gutter rash', applied the 'bog' and resanded with 120, 800, 1200.

Used the Duplicolor Hyper Silver spray paint, pretty happy with the result, however its not a direct colour match to the OEM colour also by using the 120grit sandpaper it actually scratched the rim further.

Off to Bunnings and purchased a primer, applied primer which covered the light scratches, re-sanded with 800/1200 gritt and resprayed. Outcome, perfect. Using a primer in the process is a must.

Didn't apply the clear coat as I was not happy with the silver colour, going to try another product to see if I can get closer to the OEM colour. More updates to come.

Fitted the STI Pink Springs today, immediately fixed the problem with the front height being too high.

Rear and front are the same now. With the new springs it actually brought the rear end up a little.

This is known as 'saggy butt syndrome' and subie wagons are notorious for it :)
Pinks should make it a bit nicer.
