I've always been an advocate for a simple, clean, and quiet as possible modified car. So I was stuck in a conundrum for the longest time when it came to upgrading the intake. On one hand, after the exhaust, DP, and BOV, I didn't need yet another mod adding to the noise levels (I have a thing against the hissing and sucking noise). Yet on the other hand, after the exhaust and DP, the panel filter intake could no longer sustain it's ability to complement the exhaust and the DP. It was now the bottleneck for optimising the performance gains.
I eventually caved in to the latter (damn you Team Funeral and your peer pressure! ), and had Phat GT order me the Blitz Carbon Suction Intake Kit (thanks Phat). I picked it from him the other night and brought it home to install myself.
Overview
The kit comes with all the necessary parts for an easy install. Installation was straight forward and only 30 minutes. It fit perfectly with no need for fiddling or cutting. The Blitz kit is unique in that it includes a carbon fibre cover which encloses the pod filter. This makes it one of the few kits on the market that is legal on Australian roads. No defect for me thank you! However it's not just a cover though, because it includes the inlet air duct as well so there's no segmentation between duct and air chamber.
Feedback
Phat says this kit is the best available for the Liberty. I have no problem believing that! And not because it's also one of the most expensive! Response is much quicker now. I thought the DP did wonders for quick throttle response, this adds to it even more. Plus the turbo's 'kick in the back' feeling that is felt when it shoots forward has increased as well. As much as the HKS panel filter was a good mod, the Blitz kit is much better in terms of making a noticeable difference.
Just trying to get used to the noise still. It's a cross between a hissing leak and the GFB BOV. Some people like it though, but I'm still not convinced. But despite that, it's still a highly recommended upgrade as I'm quite happy with the results.
So if you have a bit of dosh lying about and you only want the best for your Liberty, the Blitz kit is for you!
The huge pod filter

In-built bracket to connect the factory air sensor
Bye bye panel filter, hello intake
This is with the carbon fibre cover box on, and the filter is out of sight!
Zoom out to the engine bay. It's not noticeable and blends in nicely with my carbon fibre engine covers
