Next up is tune by Coyote. I want to see what it makes stock first and then again after I do exhaust etc.

Also investigating Bluetooth and reversing camera options, at the moment the Grom BT3 seems the way to go for BT

Purchased some leather shampoo and conditioner today and gave it a good go. First time with leather seats so I did some googling and found that Zaino 9+10 seemed to be the popular go to product. CCP were out of stock and recommended Duragloss instead, so I got a bottle of 441 and 221

So I pretty thoroughly went over every leather part with the shampoo, being careful not to get much on the Alcantara inserts as the bottle says on the back "Not recommended for suede or fabric". Leather was in pretty good condition still, with no cracks or tears or significant wear marks on most. The driver's seat side bolster has some wear from people climbing in and out so I was hoping to make that less noticeable. First thing I noticed was that it seemed to absorb pretty quickly and smelt quite natural and leathery, left the seats looking a little richer than before but not overly glossy or sticky.

I left it dry/soak in for a few hours and then went back over everything with the conditioner which is a cream rather than a spray, same smell and went on as easy as the shampoo. Seats look almost brand new now, the wear on the driver's side bolster less obvious and nice finish.

Overall very happy, I always like Duragloss and most of my car detailing products are actually Duragloss so I'd highly recommend the 441 and 221 for leather seats :D

Short update:

Engine rooted, new bottom end required.

Looking at EJ257 STI bottom end with ARP studs etc. going in ASAP

Not particularly happy :(

I didn't notice anything leading up to its dyno runs, although I hadn't been driving it 100% because I was waiting till it was safely tuned.

May have been a result of the bad tbsti tune that the dealers load on and it having a fairly easy life. The previous owner used to drive it around in "I" mode all the time, so its quite possible that if he drove it harder it would have happened earlier.

I do not understand people. Spend a large amount of coin on a fast car, and drive it not only slowly, but in slow 'mode' all the time. Sorry to hear.

Did it happen on the dyno? Wouldn't you hear knocking or only now that it's happened?

Yes, it let go on my dyno while doing a baseline run.

Nothing exciting happened during the run, was just the straw that broke the camel's back.

Looking at Daniel's beautiful Liberty with hail and engine damage wasn't exactly uplifting, but it will be back .. better than ever.

Hope so looks like a great car ! What actually occurs bad knocking or car stall ? Bangs ? Curious

Can this be tune related ?

It was on the factory tune. As Coyote said he was getting a base line before he started tweaking.
The stock tune is f'n dismal & can grenade a motor such as what happened to Daniel.

I saw it at Frenchies during the week. It looked so forlorn Daniel. :(
But I can't wait to see it back better than ever mate. :)

Geez sad to hear of another one needing a rebuild... silver lining is you get a tough engine to work with in the future :good:

Car is being put back together and should be back in a couple of weeks, stuck with standard EJ257 short block with ARP studs for extra strength. I don't plan on going over 220atwkw so the internals should be fine as they are, all belts/gaskets etc. being replaced with new as well. The bright side is that it shouldn't need much in the way of service work for a while :D

Also decided on my dump pipe upgrade, I am going to go CES Racing as they have one in stock from a cancelled order and are getting it ceramic coated (polished silver) for me and will be fitting in a few months. I know that the general consensus is that its not really worth the extra cash but its not much more expensive than an Invidia dump coated and installed anyway, plus I hear nothing but great things about CES Racing. Very interested to see what it makes on the dyno stock and then with the twin-dump...

Car is also booked in for hail damage repair in April, so I'll be taking a heap of photos after that
