After all my talk about the VF52 only being a minor upgrade from the 46, this one popped up at great price and I couldn't resist  It is a great turbo for the street though, nice power in mid-range and quick spooling like the 46 but keeps pulling to redline.

My dump pipe will need modifying to fit as the wastegate setup is quite different so when I can have that sorted it'll be back to Coyote for a full re-tune :D

Vf46 to vf52 is identical ....

Nice!

How different is your dump and why? Vf46 has an identical rear end iirc?

Well its a divorced wastegate dump pipe so it'll need modifying to work properly with the different wastegate even though it will bolt up the same

This isn't my photo but it shows the differences

Ah fair enough! It's been a while since I've seen a vf52.

Just lock it up and go external wastegate

Good one Dan it will be interesting to see what you think. Not sure if the additional lag will be more noticeable on an auto but based on past experience it will but once you get used to it, you will love it.

I see what you mean with the wastegate splitter, looking at that photo of the VF46 it is hard to see how the splitter even fit in the first place. The splitter will be more effective with the VF52 anyway based on the direction the wastegate opens.

Yes it is a completely different angle from the 46 to the 52 so it'll need to be straightened to work properly.

Hopefully shouldn't be much more lag, from what I've read it seems to be only about 200rpm so it should still be well and truly kicking at 2700/2800 rpm and the fact that it keeps pulling till red-line means it has a much broader "fun" range of boost

On the last cruise for example while the car performed flawlessly, you can feel the power dropping off if you rev it past about 5000rpm whereas the VF52 would have been much more usable.

This I can confirm. The VF52 holds to redline, it's a little bit manic compared to the VF46...

VF52 going in next week followed by a re-tune, I've only done about 2,500kms since new engine went in so still stretching her legs I think :D About to hit the 100k on the odo though :(

Fresh oil and filters going in same day so hopefully all goes to plan and I have a nice healthy dyno chart to post up

That is it for power mods for a while then I swear...

Haha, for the time being at least

Also supposed to have been re-tuned yesterday but had some issues with the different wastegate not quite working with the dump properly so is getting modified again tomorrow :(

Wish I had bought a normal open mouth dump pipe now but first world problems I suppose

Dyno chart update next week

Back on the dyno this morning after dump re-modified to suit different wastegate of the VF52 and.... it all went really well

Tuned with less boost and still running a bit rich for extra safety it is making another ~15kw atw :D Red line is 52 and blue is 46

Not sure exactly is going on with the slightly lower outputs, as my previous tune as per other print out I posted was 152kw however it read as 146kw for the comparison? Coyote did say he changed a couple of things with the ramp/load or something I can't quite remember properly so that might be it. Torque is obviously not quite accurate as the 46 definitely does not have more torque but was how the TQ was loaded up on that run. Another 10-15 left in it easily if it was leaned out and screwed some more boost into it but this is a nice safe tune for a while

All credit once again goes to Coyote, it drives so well and from about 2700/2800 it starts to pull very hard!

Nice result. A VF52 is something I have been considering. Still tossing up whether to keep my car next year or upgrade though
