Hi Guys,

I’ve been super lazy lately, but found the motivation to put up the car so far.

MY10 (December ’09 build) GT Premium, 6MT in pearl white. Picked it up locally from the first owner (he was selling due to his 5 year lease being up) with 59,xxx km’s on it. Basically just been lurking these threads gathering information and buying bits and pieces here and there. Much more on the list, but as always, money in vs money out doesn’t seem to equate favourably when modding cars.

From my experience so far, it’s been difficult finding performance parts for the Liberty’s as everything is for WRX/STI and some parts aren’t compatible across models. Because of this, I’m going to list the part numbers (as best I can) next to parts I’ve bought or am planning to buy, hopefully it helps people out when doing their own research.

The list so far:

Cusco rear strut bar - 692 541 A
Summit Racing front strut bar - SL-LBR-001
Whiteline 24mm adjustable front swaybar - BSF41Z
Whiteline 22mm adjustable rear swaybar - BSR49XZ
Whiteline rear swaybar mount braces (these come with BSR49XZ) - KBR15
Kartboy solid front and rear end link combo - KB-017-08COMBO
Eibach Pro-Kit springs - 7722.140
Whiteline roll centre correction kit - KCA313
Whiteline anti-lift kit - KCA334
Whiteline rear subframe inserts - KDT902
Whiteline LCA bushes - W0506
GFB Respons BOV - T9033
Perrin Brass Shifter Bushing - PSP-INR-016 (also requires 2015 WRX transmission washer, Subaru P/N 031208006)
Whiteline Positive Shift Kit - KDT901
Whiteline Rear Diff Inserts - KDT927
STI Group N Transmission Mount (5mt) - D1010FE020
Perrin Shifter Stop - PSP-INR-018
Perrin Short Shifter Adapter - PSP-INR-201
Perrin Steering Dampener Lockdown - PSP-SUS-565
HKS Dump Pipe - 33005-AF017
DBA T2 Front Rotors - DBA2650S-10
DBA T2 Rear Rotors - DBA2663S
DIxcel Type M Front & Rear Pads
Goodridge Braided Brake Lines - 24220

Nice set of planned mods you have there, will be interested to see your progress. :good:

How do you find the OBDKey? Does it talk SSM with our cars okay, and more importantly any benefit using SSM with Torque compared to normal?

Thanks mate,

Looking forward to driving it once the new suspension goes in soon!

The OBDKey is really good, they're a bit pricey though. The polling is nice and fast. From the bit of mucking around I've done, it just lets you access more sensors (I haven't gone through and checked exactly what's different). I'm currently speaking with the support guys from OBDKey to update the firmware of my key to speak SSM over CANBUS, at the moment it talks over K-Line, I'm their test bed for the new firmware.

Ahh cool that sounds promising.

So the remaining suspension bits and pieces went in on Saturday.

S&J advised against the front LCA bushes, sighting that they would increase NVH to undesirable levels. Instead they installed a Whiteline ALK. The ALK is actually listed on the Whiteline site as fitting the BL/BP Liberty's, but it fits our BM/BR as well (although Whiteline don't list it). To be honest, I'm not entirely happy with the service from S&J at the moment, the work was hours behind the advised timeframe which made me late to meet Matt (who hung around and waited thankfully) to get the car tuned (also costing me dyno time).

The front end links are also at a horrible angle and look like they'll chop the bushes out if they stay that way. I cannot understand why the spacers which came with the Kartboy kit weren't used (considering they are supposed to be the experts). The picture below has been emailed to S&J although I haven't received a response yet. and I am bringing the car back tomorrow morning for them to slip some spacers in and correct the angle.

Overall the car handles great now and sits how it should have from the factory, but unfortunately due to a dodgy BOV I discovered I have a boost leak beyond 10psi :(

As of this morning, I have ordered a replacement BOV (GFB T9033) which should help me hold a full 16psi on Matt's S# tune. Big thanks to Paul from Street to Track for organising it for me. Aside from the boost leak, the extra torque that Matt unlocked in unreal, and flat foot shifting is scarily fun :D

The ALK also feels quite strange, it feels as though the wheels are squirreling/self-correcting mid-corner. I assume this is a result of the ALK and is intended, just something I wasn't expecting.

All in all it was a busy weekend for the car, hopefully the few little things get ironed out soon!

Quick update!

S&J added spacers for the front end links this morning and the car feels a lot better now, although I haven't got under the car for a look yet. I also discovered that they didn't install the lateral locks which came with my rear sway bar, so they chucked them on for me too. Finally I can go for a spirited drive without worrying that the bushes are going to chew out :)

Edit: Just got under the car before heading out to lunch, and they look worse with the spacers! :angry2:

Raced down to a local Pedders near my place and had a chat to them about the end links. They agreed its either more spacers to even the links out or go back to stock links because of the spherical bearings. I've ordered a set of spacers from Kartboy to hopefully resolve the problem. I also grabbed 2 new sets of bushes for the tops of the links, as the ones in there now are getting pinched like hell with the angle they're at.

Edit 4/3/15: Had my mechanic install a set of Kartboy spacers and new top bushes for the endlinks. Much better now, the angle of the endlinks was so severe that 2 bushes had already split

First day into the Christmas break I decided to try my hand at plasti-dipping the chrome surrounds of my front grille.

I'd seen this done on a couple of Gen V's on the LegacyGT forums and liked the look, so I thought I'd give it a crack myself. Overall I'm happy with the way it turned out, lucky for me plasti-dip is extremely forgiving!

Separating the chrome surrounds from the rest of the grille is a bit of a pain, I found that using a small flathead screwdriver to encourage the clips to move was the best method. I managed to get it all separated and back together without damaging any of the clips.

Great call on the grill, cheapest best way to make the car look worthy! :clapping:

If you plan on anything 200 and over i think its general consensus on a better tmic. If not sounds sweet should handle fairly well now!

Thanks mate, I'm really happy with how it turned out.

From what I've read around the place, 200 is about the limit for a Gen V without doing stronger pistons and/or upgraded turbo? That'd be about the limit for me I'd think, but if I need a TMIC before then I'll get one.

Yeah it handles a lot better now, especially at speed. Hopefully in the first half of January I get this crap sorted out with the front end links. I'm still getting used to the anti-lift too, it feels really strange through the steering wheel. Will probably do the front LCA bushes at some point too, despite what S&J said about NVH. The set up at the moment rides beautifully. I drove a 550km (ish) round trip for the Christmas break and the ride on the highway is comparable to the stock springs comfort-wise.

Yeah i know its considered around the 230 mark for gen 4 but not sure about the new 5's may be relatively new territory still.

Any reason why you will get the LCAs done anyway? haha money to burn?

Ah ok, maybe the Gen V's will be able to pull that much once they get a larger community of modders. Haha definitely not money to burn! The Whiteline LCA bushes are only $50ish, and it just seems that a lot of other Gen V owners upgrade them and speak wonders about the difference they make

Quick couple of pictures of the ride height with Eibach's incase anyone was curious (excuse the dirty car!). Personally I like the slight drop, as I'd still like to be able to cart around full boot loads of stuff/have passengers without bottoming out or crawling sideways over speed humps. Its enough to be noticeable and seeing as it was a toss up between these and STi pinks, I'm glad I chose these as I don't think the pinks would have been low enough.
