Mods to 08 Lib STi

I am counting down the days, will finally be home next week and have booked in MY08 Liberty STi to get..

EcuTeK Tune
MRT Front Dump Pipe and Centre Section (Retains Rear STi Mufflers)
MRT / Hyperflow TMIC (new Cross Flow Design)
K & N panel filter.

Will be home Wednesday night, have owned the car over six weeks and will only get to drive it for the second time next Thursday. There is an alcohol ban over here and the food is terrible so the first thing I will do when I get home is enjoy some steak & seafood and a beer or two...... so the Lib will have to sit in the garage until the morning.. Will spend most of Thursday driving through the hinterland (just because I can :-)), will have no choice but to use the ‘drive it hard to break it in’ methodology as it will be S# all the way, then have it booked in Friday for mods.. Damn I cant wait.. I am heading out to OPMsport in Toowoomba (from Gold Coast (& also looking forwards to this drive)) to have the work done, as they were the only ones who happily answered all my annoying questions over the last six weeks and they weren’t all about the hard sell & they seemed genuinely interested to help me with the mods I wanted and not just sell me the most expensive gear.. ie they recommended I not waste my money on the full exhaust and I should keep the STi mufflers saving about $1,000, where as most other places just told me I should get the full exhaust and they happily divulged all the pros & cons of the mods I was interested in..

Also thanks to the forum for all the help and suggestions so far..

Will let you know results & post some pics & dyno sheets next weekend.. Next time back (August) will most probably lower & upgrade suspension.. Then maybe bigger turbo, injectors & fuel pump around Christmas when I hope to be back home for good :-)

All sounds great, watch as you get towards the top of the range as the boys love to set up the radar.

Central PNG.. Ok Tedi Mine in Tabubil.. Have been here about a year and a half.. Have had enough for the moment thou.. I am coming back to work in Brisbane for a while in a few weeks.. Its been an amazing experience, but you can only spend so long in a third word country before you start to miss having a normal life.. 18 days to go... and counting them down..

If you knew the history of BHP's biggest ever fark up, the name Ok Tedi would make you cry.

No offense Adam, you're just earning a quid ... but Australia should be ashamed of what has happened there.

Its all good, I don’t get offended too easily lol.. I know the history of this place.. This pace was a bit of a dumping ground for useless BHP management.. Hence why is was such a fark up environmentally.. As part of my job I do a lot of work providing essential services to remote villages, this place has cleaned up its act since the 80’s.. BHP gave up the mine years ago and it is now owned by the PNG government.. Most of the profits go into what is basically a superannuation fund for the area (to be used when the mine closes down in a few years)..

They were basically dumping the tailings (which is the left over dirt/silt after you extract metals out of the rock) into the Ok Tedi (Ok = river).. These tailings then ended up in the Fly River.. This basically caused a deep narrow river to become a shallow wide river.. This then in turn caused the flooding of a sh#t load of low lying villages every time it rained.. They still dump the tailings into the Ok Tedi, but they now have a couple of dredges down at the Fly which prevent the silt build up..

Yeah I pretty much did the same thing.. I have had the car over five months and still only few thousand km’s on the clock.. I really don’t have that much patients to still be running it in using the ‘take it easy method’.. I have hit the rev limiter a few times and give it some stick quite often.. I had an ex-hwy pursuit car a few years back and it would have been driven hard off the block and I never had any problems with it and it went pretty hard for a commodore (well compared to other V8 commodores)..
