Re: miboosta's GTB VF52 disassemble

Over the weekend I finally pulled apart my vf52. It had a bit of shaft play (giggity) and curiosity got the better of me. Matt (Kido) said the 6startspeed from the states can supply an already balanced CHRA, and all I need is a shop to assemble the rest of it.

The inside was all munched up and the turbines completely ruined, which shouldn't matter because of the replacement CHRA will fix that anyway. The only part I need to re-use is the exhaust and compressor housing. My exhaust side is fine, no damage at all from it letting go. The compressor housing however has some score marks on it. Does anyone know if it will cause any issues once its back together and running? They're not very deep, but do catch your fingernail.

Would a light sand (800 grit w&d) suffice to smoothen it out, or should I just bite the bullet and turf it and buy a new one?

On a lighter note, ive sourced some front and rear brembos, should be here soonish. And bought some Ultrex eyelids.

A light sand will be fine - it won't make much difference to anything.

You can get a new housing if you want to, but it doesn't really matter.

Excellent! I was hoping that was the case.

Cleaned up the exhaust housing today. Turns out it has a hairline crack on the waste gate hole. Hoping it's not going to matter as the actual gate covers it.

Anyone experienced this before?

Only basically everyone ever - Google it, it's super common and not a problem.

Awesome! Rebuild away then!

More bad luck with these shitty fucking roads today. On route to the fozmafia cruise, I was turning a corner at probably 50 km/h with cars and bikes on the other side and no where to go I nailed another pot hole. So now the brand new rim I just replaced has a buckle in the lip.Image

Anyone had repairs done before? Is it even possible to fix?

A decent wheel repairer should be able to roll the buckle out & check for cracks.

Hit up google, find some local repairers, and flick them an email with the pic and see what they say.

Definitely possible to fix. As Troy mentioned, you just need a reputable business that knows what they are doing to re-roll it and respray it if it is required.

Cheers for the reply gents. Went and seen the local smash repair and got quoted $100 to fix the lip, or $350 to fix the lip and a respray of all 4 black. Undecided what to do yet, I've always loved black wheels but I also like the silver on silver.

Plus my Brembos get here this week, was going to paint them silver (to go with the silver rims) but if I paint the rims black, I might go a different colour with the brakes. Something that stands out.

Thoughts?

I just painted my calipers to make them stand out a bit against the black rims. I love it. Im just waiting till my car gets a paint detail before I take proper photos. It's a personal choice at the end of the day. The only wrong way to go about it is to choose a color thats an eye sore.

What colour did you go with?

What would you call an eyesore?

Look up 'Citroen Rouge Lucifer'. I went with that color.

An eye sore to me would be pink, fluro yellow, spew green, brown, commodore red.

Ahh yea like a dull red with a pearl is it?

Might just stick with the silver and play it safe.

Yeah its a darker sort of cherry/candy apple color. Looks the goods and doesn't stick out like dogs balls.
