Centre diff I think. Box would be fine as I've a spare one sitting in my garage but I'm all put of centre diffs :(

I had tried before the electrical tinkering today.
I'm not sure it would help with this latest issue unfortunately. Seems to be more mechanical, just by the sounds of it

Bearings shagged in center diff is my guess.

Do you run brass sleeves? I dont think you mentioned it.

No I didn't put brass bushes in. I just bolted the replacement box straight in after I blew the last diff.

I'll take the diff out in the next day or so and have a look. My old man works at a bearing place so replacements will be easy to sort out

Problem is though - if the needle bearings shit themselves then so have your gears (planetaries and reduction drive), as these are centred on the four needle bearings in the planetaries so if they shatter, then the gears will move and be munted

I mean brass bushes to replace the needle roller bearings; not pissy needle roller bearings again ;)

Dad was up here in Bris this weekend and inspected the old diff; he laughed at the sight of the stock bearings. He is going to look at some custom brass bushes for the planetaries; double bush arrangement with middle spacer similar to the stock bearing setup. He said this would provide the necessary strength needed to replace the bearings, but also, the spacer can be fabbed to allow high fluid flow for lubrication.

I know the single bush is tried and tested, but given I'm in a position to experiment and have someone who can design and manufacture the setup for me, I'm looking into it.

Did some "donuts" (read, ultra slow full-lock circles) just up the road to get a sound clip.

The ping/tink is what worries me as being slipping cogs somewhere in the centre diff. The duller/more muted rattle heard at 15-20s and 26-30s is my down pipe rattling at the join at the bottom of the down part.

Plan: take this NEW (well, used) centre diff out and see if it's that.

Gotta say, I'm really fking over this car right now

It's getting close! That's for damn sure :?

Thanks. It's so comfortable to drive with; so much nicer than the skinny stock one.

Found the issue yesterday; only too about 90mins to fully get the centre diff out...And thus confirm it's rooted. 2 in 3 weeks; some effort there except I haven't driven hard on the replacement box at all!

My god. How is that even possible?
Could it just be that you have the worst luck in the world and bought one that was already stuffed?

I'm leaning towards this. Or at least on the way out. Although an electrical fault (bad connection between TCU and ECU, in particular throttle position) earlier this week caused some seriously rough shifts. I doubt these shifts helped.

Got under the bitch today for something OTHER than to remove/replace a centre diff. It was an odd feeling given the past three or four weeks

Found the source of that heinous whistle/screech I was hearing at high boost levels: FKD header/up pipe gasket. This was installed new only a few months ago, with the new engine I think. Can't remember exactly though.

Anyway, crapped out gasket removed and replaced with modded GS header gasket to suit different stud pattern

Also filled up with EFlex from the local Caltex instead of driving to Elbuttfukko for United E85. I'm not sure if it's a result of no more exhaust leak, which I really only knew about on full whack, but the Castrol blend seems nicer than the United stuff; I know it's highly likely to be lower ethanol content (probably 75%), but it just feels smoother everywhere. Even when low rpm and no boost
