Well my car has left and is on it's way to Brisbane. Next time I drive it it will have QLD plates!

With the import laws changing next year to allow the purchase and import of a new car, ie Levorg STI, S207, etc if any of you are think of going this way I can thouroughly recommend Autohub. I've been dealing with a young guy by the name of Jun Mizuno, a Japanese guy with a Kiwi accent, and his service has been fantastic. Cost me ¥42000, about AU$450 for pick up from my house and delivery to Yokohama, customs clearance in both Japan and Aus, bio-wash, and all required paperwork. There are people charging over $1000 to do this. Shipping was AU$1600. Should have it on the road for a total ost of about AU$6k.

Love it :good:
$6k on the road? Is that inc the price of the car or is there a hefty compliance bill + rego?

Compliance should be around AU$2k including 12 months rego. There's not a lot to do to a Legacy. At most they may have to add a top child seat anchor. A/C gas, anti-intrusion bars, etc are all ready sorted from the factory. My biggest problem will be fuel. Jp High Octane is 100 so I'll have to get it retuned to suit the Au98 until then it's I mode and off the throttle. A mate in Brissy has a good tuner so shouldn't be too long to get it sorted.

Awesome news Adrian. I'm sure you're stoked to bring your prized possession home!

That's a great price too.

Must admit I didn't even know the s207 was out until you pointed it out above

Direct injection ej207 sounds awesome

Yeah Mick I'm pretty happy about both the car and the cost. Had a look at the paperwork from the last Spec C Impreza we sent to Australia the other day and it cost ¥96000 just for clearance and wash using Nippon Express. FOB was a touch cheaper as the Impreza is under 11m3, the cutoff for small car pricing, and the Legacy just over. The Mrs has already claimed the Legacy will be her daily especially now the HKS coilovers are in and she's enjoying driving it.

Not sure if the S207 is using the EJ or the FA. There was a new STi Lat time I was at Subaru and the Service Manager was telling me it had the FA so they might be finally changing over.

Time will tell if the FA is an improvement or not. Maybe not which is why Subaru have stuck with the EJ207 in the STi thus far.

Good stuff and great info to know for future reference for those that may look to import .

I did a bit of reading on the s207 and I believe subFu have stuck with a DI version of the quad avcs ej207. Let's see what ends up actually appearing in the engine bay though

Had a look at the STI Japan website and the car he was referring to was the S4 Impreza STI tS NBR Challenge Pack which has been the S205/S206 previously. Looks like they are building a factory boy racer rather than the real street race cars of the past. It's basically "just" a stock STI with a wing, some Recaro seats, a sports, ie this side up, steering wheel, and black 19" rims. Sadly, it has the CVT and not the DCCD 6 speed. There were references to the S207 so hopefully there is something else coming.

All finished and picked the car up today. Total cost door-to-door was AU$5800. Customs valued the car at $7800 keeping the duty/GST down and also helped with stamp duty on the rego.

I used a company called Bring My Car To Australia/New Prestige in Capalaba to sort the compliance/rego for me as not having a car this can be difficult. If you are already here and bringing in a car you could do all this yourself and save some coin but in my situation arriving back in the country after an extended absence with no licence, no Medicare card etc, these guys fit the bill. Roxy does all the running around and her husband Kent does any spanner work required. These guys were great and I thoroughly recommend them. The car required no work for compliance, as the top child seat anchor was already there, and the same for roadworthy so no expenditure there. Roxy's communication was awesome keeping me up-to-date as things went on.

Next step is to get it tuned for 98 so until til then it's octane booster and taking it easy/I mode

Well done Adrian and welcome back home.

I would put 10% e85 into your tank of 98 rather than use octane booster (until you get a tune). That stuff is nasty for your fuel system and internals

Good luck mate

It is? Hahaha. Funny how they market it as Boost and Clean. Thanks for that I'll try to find a servo with E85

You'll surely be alright with 98 for now. Like 80% of the Subaru's here in NZ are jap imports running on 98 without tunes. Not the best if you're gonna be rough with it but not the end of the world.

Was talking to a compliance engineer yesterday and he said the same thing. He said our fuel was 98+ Meaning 98 is the minimum so if I wasn't flogging it I'd be fine. If there is any knock the ECU should pull timing so I'll take it easy and keep an eye on the ECU until I get it tuned.

Had the car on the road for a few months now and driving it daily to work. ECU is pulling heaps of timing and am just waiting for Matt to be able to fit me in for a tune. The higher speeds and different surfaces here did reveal a dodgy front wheel bearing, starts making noise above 70kph, so I went to my local Subaru dealer to get some hub kits and got told to go away and that if they had their way I never would have been able to bring it in to the country. Not surprising from the Subaru AUS dicks. Compared to Subaru Japan the service from Australian Subaru dealers is pathetic.

yeah won't be going back to those guys again. It's still a Subaru but because they didn't make $$$ out of me they don't want to make $ out of me. Their loss. Got the parts from Parts Souq and was going to change them myself until I cracked a rib last week. Bit hard to swing a breaker bar and torque wrench at the moment.
