Since moving back to Japan I've picked up a BP5F (MY09) GT Spec B Legacy. There weren't too many around when I was looking that weren't either over-priced (Gen 4 is still popular due to the size and ugliness :ninja: increase of the Gen V), or flogged to death with dodgy mods. I finally found one, a country car with 72k ks on the clock and unmolested except for a few STi dress-up bits and STi quad mufflers.

It came with a 2 year warranty and Subaru said they'd have to put the stock mufflers back on which bummed me a bit. When I went to pick it up they apologised for having to change the mufflers back to stock but stock was a set of Genome cannons so no biggie. He then said the spares were in the back. Which they were along with a facia, and a set of sway bars.

Currently has;

STi Quads
Full LED interior lighting
3M Carbon wrapped interior parts
Whiteline caster/ALK kit
HkS Hipermax IV GT SPEC A coilovers
Weds Sport SA10R 18x7.5 +45 wheels
215/45-18 Yokohama S Drives
Cusco strut brace

When I first bought it. Drove to Hakone to give it a shakedown.

Didn't like the chrome edging round the grill, like most don't, so out came the Plastidip.

The previous owner had added STi sill/scratch panels and the rear chrome one was looking a bit sad so it got plastidipped as well.

In an attempt to blend the rear a little better I checked up the rear chrome panel as well to match the STi part.

Waist Spoiler and the lower panel were done before I got the car but the lower panel is a bit rough so I'll do it again in plastidip to tie it all together.

Wasn't a big fan of how the 2xDin facia was matt black and the rest gloss black so gave it all the 3M treatment before installing the Carrozerria Nav/head until I pulled out of my Spec C.

Wheels will get changed once I decide what I want to do. Trying to think of something different. Mark (Cruisn) has given me the "find-something-and-paint-it-bug" so I've been keeping an eye on Yahoo Auctions for something suitable. Ironically, Subaru's warranty will let me change the rims as long as the tyres remain the same size so 18x8s wrapped in 215/45s it'll be until the warranty expires.
Once that does happen mods won't be crazy as it is an auto and the Mrs drives it if I want a beer, absolute ZERO here. Mods will be mainly focused on increasing drivability so looking at exhaust flow to and from the turbo (VF45), brakes, most likely Brembos as they are cheap, and a bit of bracing here and there. I'm trying to sell the Spec C at the moment but if that doesn't go then that will become a track car and so satisfy the mod bug.

S1Rs are a little too US for my liking. Seems every man and his cat has 'em over there. Or at least something similar. I am looking for a two piece though as I have something I think will look ok. White on a Legacy is a hard one though as only certain colours work without looking too ricey or try hard.

Looks good, but what's with the police bit (chequered flag strip) on the back? :)

Trying to tie things in with the black/silver checks on the STi sil/scratch plates. Still not 100% sold on it myself but until I get the urge to pull it all apart again it's staying. Might wrap it in carbon.

It looks much better in the flesh. Didn't capture well on camera as the light was pretty flat. Big ole cannons are a little 2004 aren't they. I have a set of STi quads as well but have to keep swapping them out every time it has to go into Subaru. It's just had a 6 month check and two new driveshafts, thanks to split boots, that was done under warranty :D. Makes holding off on real mods worth it for now. Subaru Japan is MUCH better than Subaru Aus when it comes to stuff like that.

Sure you're not dreaming that they changed all that under warranty

And i like the cannons, i may be slightly biased though from looking at mine.
They look nice when shiny though, need to get mine off and give them a thorough working over.

Remember, we are talking Subaru Japan here, not wannabe Subaru in Australia. The car was a Subaru Approved Vehicle that was owned by a Subaru employee and to have something even go remotely wrong in less than 6 months casts all kinds of doubt on the Subaru Approved deal. That's the way it is over here. Reputation is EVERYTHING. The dealer is also Subaru's no.1 dealer group so has the pull to make stuff happen. It has it's catches, no modding, but worth it when compared to the cowboys back home.

I pulled the muffs off and gave them a good polish just after I got the car and they did come up well. They do have the characteristic Genome scarring on the bottom though. But, I try not to look.

Nice car Adrian - well done on the nice pickup. Gotta love twin scroll goodness.

But to be quite honest I'm a little more interested in this:

You've kept this little secret close to your chest!

Pray tell....

It was bought, along with another one, to go to Australia as a rally car. One went and this is still here and I can't afford to have it just sitting around. If it doesn't sell then I'll probably track it. It's batshit quick even though its a "stocker" but would piss me off as a daily, too much temptation, too much traffic. I've had it on Yahoo here in Japan for a while but no takers so I'm going to list it in the UK and see how things go.
