Ordered a new engine from All Drive Subaroo, was very tempting to go all out with their cosworth forged package but the reality is my pockets aren't deep enough and I'm not chasing that power which seems to bring headaches with it as well.

Reconditioned EJ25T Standard Engine includes:
Machined Subaru EJ20/25 Engine case
Machined Subaru EJ20/25 turbo Crankshaft
New Subaru Connecting Rods
Improved /Revised Pistons and rings
Standard ACL bearings
Subaru Head Gaskets
New Subaru Oil pump
Subaru Engine Oil Sump
Checked , pressure test cylinder heads
New Genuine timing belt kit
New Genuine water pump
Every Subaru Long Dressed Engine is assembled using Genuine Subaru Seals, O-rings and sealing compounds.

Michael is handing the install and back to Scott for a re-tune. I mainly chose the All Drive Subaroo option as it comes with 12month warranty or 25,000 KMs and they address the issues with these engines with the revised head gasket and ACL bearings.

An insane amount of detonation was occurring according to scott :(

Tom sounds good

Do the engine providers honour warranty if you are going to get it tuned ?

Yup they recommend tunning and even asked me if I had a tuner.

How much power were you chasing?
Were you being tuned for the mods as they were installed?
Was it "just" an intake, AOS and a fmic?
What is the aim and support with the new motor?

So many questions, I apologise, but I'd like to know more about the circumstances.

If you have excessive det when on boost, why not just get a tune and or diagnosis to fix or repair the issue?

Also, shouldn't the IAM drop to failsafe protect the engine?

My fault, i left out some key things when explaining...

Mods were taken into account for each tune (3 in total), front mount was the latest addition when it went back to get a tune. At that point it had been running rich for awhile, and a bad fuel pump was causing hesitation and power loss which Michael replaced. It went to the dyno where the knock became apparent and Scott saw detonation on logs pretty much on idle. There is a constant knock now, Michael also mentioned there was condensation on the engine (sign of poor head gasket fix?).

Driving with that bad fuel pump (something that should of been changed with my headgasket/major service) may of added to the damage? I know oil loss is common with these engines but mine was excessive even after my head gasket fix, i found nothing changed with an AOS and a Catch Can.

I've never been wanting more than 200kw, I think that's pretty safe I've never been running excessive boost either maxing at 16/17psi in s# from memory?

bigBADbenny wrote:Also, shouldn't the IAM drop to failsafe protect the engine?

It should to an extent? i'm no expert on engines or a tuner but from what I read when you start modifying it's important not rely on knock sensors and have a solid tune detonation can certainly cause engine damage even with knock sensors.

Thanks, I get it now...
Pump should be the first on the list I guess :)

Pity about the underlying issues but here's to a fresh start!

So been chatting to the engine builder who suggested a few forged items at a price i couldn't resist, to save costs he'll re-use the odd part from my current engine. So i'll be getting:
- Cosworth Forged Pistons and rings
- Cosworth Coated, Tri-metal bearings
- Forged Crankshaft
- Forged Connecting Rods

24 months or 50,000 kms warranty

How much power are you chasing again?

You don't need forged rods unless you're going for MORE than 300kw at all four wheels

The stock crank is already forged? Will outperform the stock rods (read above)

Spend your money on what really counts - the best headstuds and gaskets you can buy - and oil and water upgrades.

Appreciate the info wasn't aware of that, 200kw at this stage. It'll be a while before i think about bigger turbo, again i'd only want a safe number I'm not going through this process again. Just waiting on an email back from the builder with more details. I believe it'll be very close if not the level 3 package they offer:

Level 3 – Remanufactured EJ20/25 Cosworth standard and Street Tuff Engine includes:
New Subaru EJ20/25 STI Engine case
New Subaru EJ20/25 STI Forged Crankshaft
New STi Forged Connecting Rods
Cosworth Forged Pistons and rings
Cosworth Coated, Tri-metal bearings
Cosworth Head Gaskets
New Subaru Oil pump
New Subaru Engine Oil pick up
New Subaru Engine Oil Sump
Balanced to within .5 gram
Complete Service pressure test cylinder heads
New Genuine timing belt kit
New Genuine water pump
Every Subaru Long Dressed Engine is assembled using Genuine Subaru Seals, O-rings and sealing compounds.

So just confirmed it'll be:
- Cosworth Forged Pistons and rings
- Cosworth Coated, Tri-metal bearings

And everything else mentioned in first post i came with so in that case sticking to the 200kw mark which the current tune and parts should be close to.
